Tabata - Four minutes of pain

  • Anyone try doing Tabata? It's like interval training on crack, lol. I was short on time this morning and didn't want to skip a workout so I did Tabata. I only did it with one exercise because it was my first time. I choose squats to do and was able to complete the four minutes but the last minute was killer! The whole workout from start to finish took less than fifteen minutes with warm-up and cool down included instead of my usual 30 minutes. I'm sold as to effectiveness as a 'quickie' workout. Although it might be awhile before I could do four minutes with multiple exercises. My quads are sore as heck like I'd been sprinting - that's how intense the four minutes were.

I also found this Tabata timer online; I set it up on my laptop and it did the counting for me. Here's the link: http://www.tabatatimer.com/
  • Sounds promising! Actually earlier today i was trying to find a fast effective workout. I think i might start these tomorrow maybe 2-3 reps of these a day.
  • I am doing Supreme 90 Day and today I had to do Tabata Inferno. I am so sore it hurts to stand up, sit down...ah let's be honest to do anything. Yesterday I had legs and shoulders/arms because I am trying to catch up to my missed exercises. Tabata Inferno is the devil's invention i swear lol. Oh yeah the tabata inferno disc (warm-up cool-down included only 11 minutes combined) is 49 minutes long! HATE THAT DISC lol
  • I Tabatas, when I'm really short on time they do the trick!! Like you said HIIT on crack
  • i honestly cant stand tabata lol... we do them sometimes in my cross fit class.... just not my thing...... i also dont like doing body weight movements, in general (with the exception of pushups and pull ups)... i prefer to lift and lift heavy.... to each his own
  • I think in some strange way I prefer Tabata to intervals, lol. I obviously must love being tortured! BTW, it's a day later and the DOMS is really bad. Grueling is the only way to describe this workout.

I agree the DOMS after doing Tabatas is excruciating!
