On the go breakfast suggestions?

  • OK, so I like to sleep in a bit so I usually just buy breakfast on the way to work or at our cafeteria and then eat at my desk around 10 (I can't stomach food earlier than this)!

But my options are limited to starchy and carby breakfast foods! So, I am looking for healthier breakfast options that I can take with me to work.

    Any ideas?

p.s. I am REALLY not into yogurt...I'm trying to force myself to like it, but I can't ahah.
  • hard boiled eggs
breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs and salsa
    fruit (very portable)
  • Are you into cottage cheese? I can't stand yogurt either, lol. Breakstones sells individual snack packs - grab one with a small banana and you'd be good to go.
  • If I were you, I'd probably opt for nontraditional breakfast foods: grilled chicken, tuna in a single serve can, bean salad, soup, sandwich, etc.
  • Cheese sticks, lower carb nutrition bars, portioned bags of nuts
  • If you can do hard boiled eggs that's a great choice because you can cook them the night before and put them into like...bags of 3 or 4 and grab one of those and a string cheese.

What I do, because I don't have a lot of time to cook in the A.M. either is I drink a cup of coffee and eat a Carb Rite protein bar. The coffee curbs my appetite and all the protein in the bar keeps me feeling full, but it doesn't have any sugar and it's low in carbs. This works best for me!
  • This morning I had a bean, egg, cheese, and sour cream burrito on a flatout wrap with salsa. I made a huge batch of homemade refried beans this morning. You could make a batch of burritos and freeze them to microwave on the go.
  • Make your own breakfast sandwiches with English muffin toasted) or one of those sandwich thins, a "patty" of cooked egg whites, a slice of lean ham, and a bit of cheese - nuke at work. Will hold you for hours. A little fruit or a few cherry tomatoes rounds things out.
  • Breakfast sandwiches
overnight oats (Depends on how "on the go" you are. I bring a container of these to work and eat at my desk)
    Frittata squares/egg muffins
whole wheat toast or bread with peanut butter and banana
    protein shake
    fresh fruit
    chopped veggies and hummus
    cheese and deli meat
larabars (even better if you make them yourself! yum!)
    nuts
    yogurt
    cottage cheese
  • I cannot, and I mean cannot eat before 10 or 11 am, it just makes me feel queasy no matter how healthy it is, after reading a lot about nutrition I've learned how important breakfast is. I've been making protein shakes in my bullet blender, its pretty quick and easy and drinking something isn't food but it is at the same time.

I also love the egg white wraps from Dunkin' Donuts if I'm eating breakfast late enough.
  • Get a low cal tortilla or 40 cal sliced bread, and spoon on a few TBSP of peanut butter with a thin smear of jelly (I've found you don't really need that much to get all of the same flavor).

Portion out a couple ounces of nuts in ziploc bags, good for keeping you full.

    An apple with peanut butter.

    Cheese sticks.

Get some deli meat and have a few ounces in the morning, maybe with a fruit.
  • Make a breakfast bake. Just mix eggs with whatever veggies, cheese and meat you want and cook in the oven for half an hour. Cut it up into individual portions to just grab and go.
  • You could try mixing a packet of carnation instant breakfast with a coffee and put it in a thermos to go.
