  • Who does it? I am thinking of signing up for it. But first off, I NEVER exercise, need to lose 60lbs and am obviously NOT in shape. Do you think I could do Zumba? Any tips?
  • I don't care for Zumba, but that's just me. However, I think it might be a lot of fun, even if you are just starting out. One thing I noticed in the few classes I took was that there were so many different fitness levels and sizes represented, which I thought was awesome! I think it is a good workout and a lot of people love it- just make sure that if you do try it, don't feel like you have to push it and risk injuring yourself.
  • I love Zumba & getting certified to teach

In the classes here there is such a diverse crowd. My tip? Don't get discouraged at your first class...it took me a little while to catch on to the steps but you won't be alone lol
  • I've started doing the DVDs at home. I'm so thankful I didn't try these moves in public first! It's been very fun so far. It gets you up and moving in a fun way and has actually encouraged me to just dance around the house more. Yes, seriously. When I was cleaning a couple of days ago, I had the music cranked and just danced away.

If you do try it, be patient with yourself and have fun. I know a couple of people who ended up getting frustrated that they couldn't do the moves perfectly. For me, it's more important that I'm trying and moving and having fun.
  • Do you have to sign up for a whole series of classes? Can you try one to see if you like it?

I do Zumba once/week and I LOVE it. I've done aerobics, step, etc. for years now and I love focusing on the choreography, because it takes my mind off the fact that I'm exercising! My teacher is awesome. I've done some other classes and she's had subs in a few times, and none of them are as good. I am selfishly bummed now, because she's 5 months pregnant(I'm thrilled for her, of course!) and I'm not sure what will happen when she goes on leave.

We have people of all sizes in the class, and all ability levels. The important thing is to keep moving - don't get hung up on the steps right away.

I am drenched with sweat when I walk out of that class. It's one of my favorite parts of the week.
  • Thanks you guys. I saw that Curves offers it and so does a recreation center at the town next to mine so I have to see how pricing is. I just HAVE to start moving and this looks kinda fun. I used to do musical theatre so I am used to learning dance moves-I wasn't that great then so I don't expect miracles now LOL!
  • I've been thinking about trying Zumba too. There's a class a few times a week at my gym. I'm just nervous because I am so out of shape!
  • I have not done any of the Zumba live classes, but do the workout DVD's regularly and love them. I remember when I first started, I was 5 minutes into the "Cardio Party" and thought that I was going to stroke out!

Now, to toot my own horn a little, I rock them! So whether it is a DVD or a class, be prepared, it's going to be hard at first, but you'll get better.
  • I have the DVDs. I haven't done them in a while, but now that I'm back on the exercise wagon I'll probably start doing them again soon. They are definitely a great workout. And you don't have to be good at it to get your sweat on. =)
  • Now you ladies have me interested! I've seen the Zumba class announcements at my gym but didn't really know what it was. I think I am interested in getting the DVD's because I have zero rythm and am in terrible shape- I'd rather learn a bit on my own before I try it in a classroom setting. It sounds fun!
  • Zumba is so much fun! You dance, laugh and sweat. You can burn 800 calories in one class and not realize it or feel like its a workout.

I do Zumba twice a week. Breaks it up after doing kickboxing and/or toning.
  • I really want to try a Zumba class... and reading this has motivated me a bit more! Perhaps when I've lost a little of the weight I want to lose...
  • REading this I actually bought thr program and now waiting for it to come in the mail ^_^.
  • Today was technically my second day of Zumba and so far I really like it! (Yesterday I just went over the moves...today I did the workout) The 20 minute workout is pretty simple if you've gone over the moves but with practice comes perfection! I'm excited for tomorrow.
  • Zumba= best thing ever (for me, at least. :))
Oh my WORD. Zumba is the most amazing thing ever, at least to me. If you like music and dancing, then it is definitely for you. It took me a long time to get in shape with it (around a month or two, doing it twice a week) but once I got started I got addicted! I definitely recommend it, but don't use it as your only form of exercise...I've actually strained a shoulder muscle because I did it too much, or went too hard for too long (who really knows?) Anyway, my experience with Zumba has been really awesome.
