Hey
I;m vegetarian on SB and have done really well in the past. I was just wondering about veggie burgers, i assume veggie burgers made with peas, carrots, potato, etc. are not allowed in phase 1. Does anybody have any suggestions of veggie burger types and brands (not grillers, or any taht are meant to taste like real hamburgers, yuck) that are sb phase 1 approved?
Thanks!
Most veggie burgers use potato, look for one that is lentil or mock meat (gluten or soy protein) based. IN Australia there is Frys brand, I'm not sure about the US sorry.
It's a little tricky because protein sources for vegetarian products are often ingredients like wheat or corn. Those are okay when the ingredient is, for example, wheat protein or gluten not wheat.
From the FAQ for Phase 1:
SOY BASED MEAT SUBSTITUTES
Unless otherwise stated, look for products that have 6 grams of fat or less per 2-3 ounce serving
Seiten
Soy Bacon
Soy Burger
Soy Chicken unbreaded
Soy Crumbles - 1/4 cup (2 oz) suggested serving
Soy hot dogs
Sausage Patties and Links
Tempeh 1/4 cup suggested serving
Bacon
Burger
Chicken, unbreaded
Burgers that are okay in my opinion:
Any Boca burgers other than grilled vegetable. Not the patties, crumbles or chick*n.
Gardenburgers all include grains so are not Phase 1 friendly. The same is true of Praeger burgers.
Lightlife products look good if you can find them where you live. Also many Trader Joes veggie products.
*it doesn't look like most veggie burgers in the US use potato

I would suggest making your own bean burgers.... Black bean are my favorite.... although I haven't had much success without using brown rice or oats or something in them so most of my recipes aren't p1 friendly...
