Ensure Drink for Weight Loss?

  • Hi! I recently discovered a supplement drink called Ensure Plus. My father has been in the hospital for a few weeks and his doctor instructed him to drink 1 can a day to get his daily nutrients.

I tried it and it taste really good. I'm wonderieng if it's also good for weight loss. Has anyone tried it as a weight loss supplement? I'm usualy out on the road a lot and grab a lot of fast food. I've gained 30 pounds within the past year because of my unhealthy lifestyle. Instead of running to fast food, I'm thinking about having a can of Ensure. I Googled it for more information but found several websites about people using it for weight gain. I'm not sure what to believe. Any thoughts?

  • i know Ensure, as we use it in the mental health hospital i work in when the service users are not getting enough nutrients through their eating habits (not only eating disorders). it has a fantastic range of nutrients.
i would think that people who use it for weight gain, drink it in combination with their normal food, and not as a meal replacement.
if you want to use it as a calorie-control meal replacement you should be fine, even though i do not personally agree with such diets :P

  • That is quite a lot of calories. I think it is OK to use in an emergency but not in place of a healthy diet. I, personally ykeep a couple cans of Slimfast or Boost on hand ,just in case I run out of milk . They are emergency rations only. Not my regular diet.
  • Ensure Plus is the one made to help people gain weight. There are other Ensures out there, if you really want to use them, that have less calories. I'm sure you could find the same flavor in the regular Ensure or the High Protein one.
