Taste of the HNS?

  • Hi everyone! I'm going for a consultation this week and was wondering. What do those shakes TASTE like? am I gonna be holding my nose and forcing it down 5 times a day? what do I mix it with? water?

Also, I'm going here: http://www.biggestloserresort.com/home/ in october for 2 weeks. we will be eating 1200 calories a day but it will probably be nothing like the MRC diet. how big of a problem do you think this will be?

They are a drink, kind of like a kool-aid tasting thing, not a shake. People have their favorites .. I always liked the peach mango, grape and orange, but I haven't tasted the new formulations.

You should be fine with 1200 calories regardless of what it is. Have fun!
  • Deb's right...you'll find your favorites. If there is one you have to choke down...don't buy it again. It's a little bit of a learning process. I like Blue Raspberry, Lemon, Grape, and Strawberry Banana Jello.

Lucky you going to the BL Resort! I'm sure no matter what you're eating you'll be fine since I bet you're gonna work your calories off. Have fun there!
  • Choices
MRC has recently carried two different formulas for its HNS concentrates (the liquids). One is the "old" formula that most people prefer taste-wise, and it comes in a shorter, wider box. The other is the newer formula that comes in taller, slimmer packaging and many people have found the taste of that to be disagreeable. Now we've heard that MRC is going to go back to the original formula totally except for the blue raspberry. To be safe you may want to avoid the tall slender ones and stick to the powders, which never changed, or the originals in the concentrates until the changeover is complete. Some of us like the blue raspberry and some don't, so you may want to ask for a sample before you buy that one.
I mix the concentrates with about 6 ounces of cold water. You can also mix them with Sprite Zero, and you can use them in some of the recipes found in the cookbook. For example, if you heat the grape HNS you can use it like syrup on toast or pancakes. Don't overlook the powders - I love some of them, too, although I use the blender with those.
  • ladystarrider - thinks for the little tip on the Grape HNS as syrup....that is a great idea!
  • What a great idea, I would never have thought to uses as syrup!! That is why I love these forums!!!
  • Thanks everyone! I started preconditioning today. I'm a little wary about being hungry/tired once my intake is reduced but all of the clients at the center were assuring me that the hunger goes away after a few days and they actually had MORE energy. I hope so! I have been spending so much money on losing weight (new clothes, gym membership, that fitness trip, and now this) that I'm being irresponsible/tapping into my savings but I've decided that it is worth it if I get healthy and fit!
