Hi all!
So. I'm 40 years old with two energetic kids (6 and 4), a full-time management job (read: STRESS) and the world's best husband. Oh, and about 45 extra pounds, too.
Medically, there are a lot of issues. Right now I take medication for high blood pressure, depression, asthma. Due to side effects, I had to go off my cholesterol medication. I'm a banana peel away from diabetes too.
Here's the thing. According to my doctor, losing weight (diet/exercise) will likely correct my blood pressure, cholesterol and pre-diabetes. Probably do wonders for my mental health, too.
I just feel so overwhelmed with my life already that I'm nervous about trying to start exercising (I have ZERO energy and have never been an athlete) and changing my eating habits. But I know I need to do it. My brother passed away earlier this year rather suddenly and we don't know what happened. I need to get it in gear so I can be healthy and strong for my kids and husband.
Really looking forward to making the first steps (starting on South Beach tomorrow morning and taping shows from FitTV to try out early morning each day?), but nervous as all get out about my ability to actually do it.
I've read around the forums and think this is a great community to guide me. Hope I eventually have something helpful to add for others, too!!!
