New to South Beach

  • Hello! I am starting SB tomorrow and am looking forward to learning from all the wisdom here. I lost 60 pounds on WW, most of it with Flex, but about 15 of it was on the Core plan. I'm tired of counting points and just feel like Core is too restrictive for what I need right now.

I just was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia and feel that SB is a good way of eating for me to deal with it. I am looking forward to learning this way of eating and making it a lifetime habit.

I have the 2003 book but see in one of the sticky posts that the food list has been updated a bit to include some dairy during phase 1. Any other changes that I should be aware of? I just ordered the SB dining out book which I feel will be a huge help for me. I travel a lot for my job so lunches are quite often eaten on the road. It will be helpful to know what some safe choices are.

I'm looking forward to participating here!
  • Congrats on your 60 lbs already lost! That is awesome!! Welcome to South Beach! I hope you have great success with it!
  • Nice to meet you. I first found 3fc thru WW several years ago, in the days of pure point counting.
  • Hello and

    Best wishes!
  • Hi GeoKasher!

It's great to have you here. Congratulations on your awesome weight loss and welcome to South Beach. I eventually got the Supercharged book, but did fine with the old book and updated food lists.

BTW, I love your username. My husband and I have just started investigating Geocaching. We've been hiking for 30 years, but he's currently struggling with health problems and we're looking for ways to to take shorter/easier hikes but still have that challenge that he loves.
  • GeoKasher! I'm happy that you're laying down your towel here on the Beach with us!
You'll do just fine with the old book and the updated food lists. The new Supercharged book just adds a few new foods to the lists, explains Phase 2 in further detail, and incorporates an exercise plan into your daily routine.

BTW, I've never done Geocaching, but I'm into letterboxing, which is similar, and I really enjoy it.
  • Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I'm excited to start the plan today. I'm going to make a list of things I need to get and make a trip to the store so I have healthy choices on hand.

Heidi- we've been geocaching for a year now. We have 110 caches that we've found so far. We really enjoy it. I like that it gets us out in areas we've never been to before. We get a lot of walking in by doing it.

Cottage- I looked into letterboxing but we live in such a remote area that there are only a few near us. We may end up doing that too eventually.

  • I hope you will take a moment to look at the FAQ thread and all the wonderful recipes. Hope to see you posting too!
  • Welcome! Okay, now I have to ask: what's Geocaching? It sounds interesting, and I'm always up for things that will get me walking more!
  • Welcome to SB from another former WW member. Love SB and would never consider going back to counting points again. I never tried core because I was afraid I would overeat. That's what kept me from trying SB for a long time, but now I'm so glad I did. Love SB!
  • Jenny- Geocaching is a world-wide treasure hunt game done with GPS units. geocaching.com has a lot of info on it. We've had a great time since we got started!
