I think i messed up....

  • I have been a fly on the wall in here for the last few weeks and and after reading the book finally decided to start SB myself. But I think I accidentally messed up. Yesterday I made spaghetti squash with ground turkey and sugar free sauce and thought I was being so good. But then today as i was eating the leftovers it hit me, "i dont think i am supposed to eat squash."

I cannot find my book to save my life, can you help me? Can I eat squash on phase 1?
  • Squash (Winter) is on the foods to avoid list for Phase 1. Sorry! But hey, you can make up for it from now on. Hang in there!
  • but spaghetti squash is considered a summer squash by SBD standards and is phase 1 appropriate.

Here is a list of phase 1 appropriate foods. Spaghetti squash is listed above summer squash in the list of appropriate vegetables.
  • Heidibird, it looks like you're good to go. I'm glad you posted! Best wishes on SBD!

Sass, nice to meet you. I really appreciate when you maintainers drop by. It gives me hope! You've done fantastic!
  • Nice to meet you HBird
  • Speaking of squash anybody know if Acorn squash tastes like Butter Squash? Afraid to buy and waste. There is a cool recipe that uses it in Clean Eating magazine right now.
  • I have never had butter squash but I really like acorn squash. I cook it in the microwave and then add cinnamon and a tiny bit of butter. It has a really rich flavor. I dont think it would be a waste to try the recipe
  • Hello heidibird! (I like your username :P)

Hi Sass, I've never heard of Butter Squash, I'm wondering if you mean butternut or buttercup?

IMO, butternut isn't as sweet as acorn, and the texture is a little different.

Acorn squash is sweeter and the flesh is a little more stringy. We love it baked with butter and pepper. We had it that way for supper last night, it's easy and yummy.

Buttercup and carnival are favorites at my house, too. They taste pretty similar to acorn squash. The buttercup is really sweet, my DH says it tastes "just like sweet potato".
