  • Anyone doing any cute gift projects for the holidays ?
I want to start buying some things now to make in December ..
I'm thinking a few fun projects will keep me out of the frig at night....

    Please share...
  • A friend of mine bought the 4 x 4 inch tiles last year--really pretty, rustic ones. Anyway, she stamped them with an ornate stamp and then colored them in with several colors of Sharpie markers. Then, you bake them at 350 for 20 minutes to "seal" them. They make great gifts as coasters--I was actually pretty surprised how nice they came out. You can also put little rubber feet on the bottoms to keep away surface scratches.

I don't craft much anymore. I am unsure why--but I need to get back to creating something.
  • a nice chick started a crafting group if you would like to join us.

  • Thank you Penquin it looks like a nice group...
  • It's not a holiday craft exactly, but I am going to a wedding at the end of November, and I am making a shell pattern throw for the couple as a wedding gift. And if I have time, I will be making a basic throw for my boyfriend's mother for Christmas. I am also working on making earrings for my aunts. I buy the sterling silver, and gold plated hook earrings and add beads, simple, elegant, and easy to make.
  • I am always, always knitting! It honestly has kept me out of the fridge.

I mean, I've been knitting for 15 years, but I really lean on it now as Something To Do when I would previously eat.
  • i'm working on a mini photoalbum/scrap book for my sister in law, she's deployed and i thought it'd be nice to have some family with her whenever she needed it.

next on my list is art for my new house. i have a huge box of antique magazines and i thought it'd be really cool to go through and pick out some of the weird or cool ads and hang them up. Maybe some for the guest bathroom and some for the kitchen. hopefully i'll find something cool in there.
  • I'm up to my ears in knitting projects for Christmas presents!! I also am really intrigued by Thighs Be Gone's coaster idea and want to try that. Are there any knitters/crocheters here that have accounts on Ravelry.com? I'm platformnine there as well.
  • I've got a couple of major projects going on, currently.

LOTS of beadwork - we brought back beads from our trip to Greece/Paris (the bead shop was actually in Santorini) to make necklaces as mementos, so I'm working on those. Also some other beading projects I've had lined up for a bit.

I've been doing a TON of canning...not sure if that's a craft or not, but it is how I'm planning to line up lots of Christmas gifts. Every year we do cookie gift baskets - this year, we'll have significantly less cookies, but more canned goods (so far I've put up: Dill pickles, Racer 5 Ale Mustard (Racer 5 is a specialty local beer), Apple and Apple-Pear butter, Peach jam, peach jalapeno jam, peach raspberry jam, apple pomegranate jelly, and plum ginger jam. Still to come: An orange "unmarmalade" (for people who like the idea of marmalade, but don't like the orange peel in it) and another mustard or two. We get all the produce at the farmers market, where it's actually REALLY inexpensive toward the end of market time.

We're also going to be making a photo album for the in-laws who were with us on the Paris/Greece trip, I'm sure lots of jewelry for Christmas gifts, and a bit of knitting (hats and scarves, mostly) as well. And I always do some sort of handpainted glass Christmas tree ornament for close family, so I'll do those as well.
  • If you love working with tiny parts, look up crackerboxkits.com . I had a serious addiction to these for a long time, before my son was born! They are absolutely magnificent.
  • these are all great ideas... thank you...

Lizzie... I buy the large picture books on sale at Borders/B&N, if you are careful cutting out the pictures, they are suitable for framing, I've decopaged over some of them to smooth out the edges.. I've found some artists collection books like Monet and paid only a few dollars...
  • I guess its not a craft...but I've decided to make homemade Kahlua and Biscotti gift baskets...
I made these baskets a few years back and they were a huge hit !
  • ooh good idea! actually i have this very bright colorful "superfoods" book that would make great kitchen pictures... hmm.

my mom and i used to make ornaments like those ones on crackerboxkits.com lots of fun, though ours were never nearly as pretty as those ones.
  • One year I made a bunch of cookies for the dogs of my friends and family...that went over very well...totally unexpected. You just have to be careful for allergies...wheat for my mutts.

Angie is becoming a knitting fool!
  • mental image of EZ in the kitchen w/ an apron and his doggies at his feet. how adorable. swoon!!

(side note- aww man, no doggie or kittie smilies?!?! we have a pig, a cow, a mouse, even a snail!)
