  • I'll start by saying that I dont think i'm lactose intolerant. However, I've been eating very clean this past week and losing steadily, and then yesterday, I ate one container of FAGE, and boom, the scale went up 1-2lbs...of course, it could not have been the dairy, tehre are so many other factors involved, i know. but has anyone else had this experience?

  • Have I ever had the scale go up 1-2 pounds in a day, for no apparent reason? Uh, yeah. Many, many, many, many times.
  • Fage is a really yummy Greek yogurt. Yogurt is one of the few dairy products I can enjoy, so I don't really know how dairy affects the scale; only how it affects my tummy. If you're concerned, try non-dairy for a week and see how that works. Lots of dairy substitutes are yummy with less cals than the originals!(Or maybe I'm just used to it )
  • I lose weight faster - and feel better and lighter in myself - if I avoid dairy.
  • Dairy will definitely bloat you. I avoid dairy myself and it does make me feel better physically to do so.
  • It could be that maybe dairy doesn't "agree with" your weighloss plan or it could just be like a normal day-to-day weight fluctuation. I know my weight fluctuates over the week which is why I've stopped weighing myself everyday (mental torture) and weight myself no more than twice a week (sundays and wednesdays/thursdays).
  • I love dairy and include it in because of the calcium. I plan it into my diet and since I weigh weekly I don't equate any fluctuations with it. But that's just me...I'd repeat the experiment, personally, in a week or so, before deciding to rule it out completely. It MIGHT be related, but it might NOT be...you'll know if you repeat the experiment...

  • I love fage yogurt. I stay away from dairy for the most part, but do have fage a couple times a month. I don't notice any weight changes when I eat it.
  • I have been working on increasing my dairy because there are studies that show that dairy products enhance weight loss!

  • I eat yogurt every day and have never noticed anything other than normal daily fluctuation.

    I think studies can be skewed based on their interests. I am sad to see that in that study, they didn't try a 'whole foods' high calcium diet. I personally eat a lot of calcium rich foods without eating dairy and without taking supplements.

    I've also read that dairy is related to diabetes I in kids as well as certain types of cancers but again studies can be skewed by who is performing them and their overall goals.
  • Not to mention that the effects of nutrition & diet in long-term diseases is dang hard to study, no matter what you hope to prove.

    Great post - I have not thought about this. For the most part, I don't care for dairy and it has been an effort to increase them. I am going to look at other high calcium foods to see if I think I am getting enough calcium.
  • Does Fage have alot of sodium?? I'm very conscience of that, I try to stay away from, cottage cheese, and for that matter, most cheeses, since they are loaded with salt. Not sure if that might be the cause. Salt is not my friend, and beware, lots of foods have hidden salt.

    As far as eating more dairy for weight loss, not sure I agree, but I'm on that path right now, to find out if it will help, or hinder my efforts!! Never a big dairy person, milk doesn't taste right w/o chocolate in it
