new to South Beach

  • I have lost 10 pounds doing Weight Watchers core but then I have stalled for months. I have 12 pounds to go. I need to change my ticker because
    I am now at 142.

I am going to try to still have my coffee because it is a favorite morning ritual I am not ready to part with. I get my coffee and crawl back into bed and enjoy it while I catch up on emails .

I sorta started 3 days ago while traveling but I didn't have all the information.
While traveling I ate KFC oven roasted chicken / egg Mcmuffin without the
muffin/ nuts/ fruit (will drop that for phase 1, but for traveling it was better than the alternatives).

I am excited about making great salads at night and grilling some heathly
    meats and seafood

Has anyone else done this diet with coffee ??
  • Good Luck Nancy!
This is my fourth day, first time in SBD ever.
I was doing WW on my own but it wasn't working anymore. I was counting points but was always craving carbs. I am hopeful that this diet will cut mt carb cravings, we will see.
  • to South Beach, Nancy! Please read the book before you get started on this plan so you can familarize yourself with the food lists and understand the concepts of this way of eating.
A good many of us here are coffee drinkers, and the only decision you need to make is whether to drink it caffeinated or decaffeinated.
  • Adding my ! Check out the stickies as well as the book and join us on the Phase I Chick Check thread.
  • Love my coffee. Works for me!
  • they say you shouldn't have caffeine because of the effects on your blood sugar/insulin (?) but I have always drank it and never had an issue. I don't think I could function without caffeine - in fact, i know I can't!
  • Nancy

You definitely should read the book before starting SBD. It's essential. When you read it, Dr. A will explain the effects of caffeine on blood sugar/insulin and will recommend that you stick to no more than 2 caffeinated servings of coffee a day. Most of us here drink coffee (and many love tea!), but we do try to keep our servings down because it does affect your weight loss.

When you've read the book and set yourself up for success (see the thread that's stickied in this forum for tips on that), join us in the daily thread for a cup of morning coffee and lots of chatter!
  • I am making my way through the book.
It makes so much sense and I love healthy food
so I think it will come easy.. I love the way I feel when
    I am eating healthy.

Another thing I am super excited about is that I am keeping a lab
puppy for my son and because she is fun to walk I have been
hiking some neat trails in our area. Before that I didn't walk much .
I may get my own puppy when my son moves in the fall. I have a dog but she has bad knees so hiking is too hard on her.

Thanks for the welcome.. last night I sauteed chicken and scallops and
we had a salad. I fixed a pasta side for my son but didn't eat any.
  • Laurie..
    Thanks for the welcome.
I am trying to find the daily thread you are talking about ???
I used to be on the core thread and we had a thread with the dates
but I didn't see that here??
  • Nancy, our daily chat thread will usually have the day of the week in the title. For instance, yesterday's daily was Thursday Chatterings, and today's daily was titled Mayday Chatter, since May 1st is known as Mayday.
  • Oh..now I see. On the Core board we did a thread for the week so I was looking for that. I like the daily thread!!
