tattoo's after weight loss
So I searched through threads and couldn't find this so I was wondering what everyones tattoos looked like when they were losing weight and when they had gotten to their target weight? I have 9 and am worried about the one on my thigh just below my bikini line. I have always had bigger legs doing gymnastics so I think it will start to dwindle into a little fish instead of a dolphin.. TIA!

I have 2 - 1 on my shoulder in back and 1 in front under my collar bone. The front tattoo is a pretty good size and was new right before I started losing. Both still look great and I have lost quite a few inches in front.

It really depends on placement - I might be worried about your dolphin too, honestly. I have back and wrist tattoos and they haven't been a problem at all, although i did notice a TINY change on my wrist (full forearm really) tattoo as I shrank. The back ones had no difference at all. It totally depends on the amount of weight and how elastic your skin is and... Maybe I'm not the best person to ask

Thanks for your responses! Yeah I'm just worried for my dolphin one since the other 8 are on my back and feet.. Anyone who has tattoos or knows about them and losing weight are GREAT people to ask ! lol

I have one on my lower back and one on top of my right foot. I gained and then lost over 60 lbs and my tatts still look as beautiful as the day I got them.
I do believe placement and body structure are the key to this though. I did know a woman whose stomach tattoo was ruined after pregnancy, but that is a much quicker gain/loss situation.

This is slightly unrelated, but has anyone ever gotten a tattoo in an area with stretchmarks? If it's at all feasible and wouldn't look even worse than the stupid stretchmarks, I'm considering covering some of them.
I am kind of embarrassed to go into a shop and ask them that (especially if it's a definite no-no) so I wanted to ask here first...
To answer the OP, my little one on my lower back/upper bum looks just fine and I got it at approximately this weight, then went on to lose 40 lbs and then gain up to 210 and now I'm back...

Twentysixpoint2 I had my dolphin on my stretchmarks and it turned out fine. I don't know if its a big no no, but I did have it on them and you can't see them. I am not an artist or anything so I dont' know the rules. My stretch marks were little ones from "growing" on the top of my leg right by my bikini line.
About the original question that gives me a little bit of hope that maybe just maybe they will be fine! haha

I have one on my front hip (about the size of my fist) I got it when I was smaller by about 20lbs and I noticed when I gained weight it got bigger. When I lost before it just shrank back to normal size, so if you got the tat at a larger size, I would imagine it will shrink....

Hey 26.2!!
I don't have stretch marks, but I do suffer from cellulite, and I use my tattoos to speak for my love of animals/wildlife & nature. I also use them to "cover up the ugly" - heh!
I have "spider veins" in my legs that look MUCH BETTER tanned, but also, a good tattoo can cover that up as well & is MUCH CHEAPER than other forms of ridding them. I am planning a mermaid on my right outer & back of thigh - this will help cover the cellulite AND the spideys.
A GOOD TATTOO ARTIST can help you choose something that would help disguise the stretch marks. Go talk to one. Talking is free!

It depends on the type of stretch marks.
Some stretch marks can form scar tissue and for some people, that can be hard to tattoo over.
That being said, I've got tattoos over half a surgery scar and you can't really tell.
Go find a recommended tattoo shop and ask them questions. They won't mind.

So far my three have stayed the same and some have been from 200 lbs to 145 lbs to 269 lbs. They are on my back or lower back in areas that luckly haven't changed size much.
I plan on getting another one soon, not sure where yet, maybe ankle since that won't change size on me. I want to get quod me nutrit me destruit, which means what nourishes me also destroys me, which stands for my relationship with food.

my artist likes to make sure that any scar is healed for 1 year before tattooing. I don't know if all are like that or not.
I've lost 30 lbs and I have stars from my elbow to shoulder. I haven't noticed them warp or look stupid. If anything they look better, as my arm shrinks they wrap around it more instead of just sitting on the top side of my fat arm! I have one on my back (think tramp stamp) that hasn't changed a bit, at least not that I noticed. I'd say go for a tat wherever you would like!
and don't be afraid to ask the artist. They really are very knowledgeable! They know what works best where and how. and with all the actually stupid things they hear ("I want barbed wire around my neck. <- I actually heard this one) any question you can think up is mild.
much love and we wanna see the ink!

I started getting my work when I was about 150lbs I'm now up to about 200 and I've noticed no difference. I have one on my lower back, 3 on my upper back and one on each ankle. And as far as the strech marks go, I say no worries, my lower back has strech marks on it and the tattoo is gorgeous, I've had those since I was thinner thanks to being a cubby kid/teen then losing a significant amount in high school to gaining it back afterwards.
