# of eggs per week

  • Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out different things I can have for breakfast as oatmeal everyday is getting old. I do eat cottage cheese and protein smoothies occasionally.

I've been doing research on the net trying to find out how many eggs per week is OK to eat. I have GREAT cholesterol numbers and no real health problems. Just have some fat to lose. I've read anywhere from 3-4/week to 4-6/week. I really don't like just egg whites. I'd like to be able to eat 4-6 microwaved eggs per week. I can really only eat one egg at a time (weird I know but that's my stomache) and only like them cooked with NO oil/butter/fat/milk/yogurt in the microwave or hard boiled. You know just a plain old egg. I've read that free-range grass fed eggs have less cholesterol. Anyone jnow if this is true? Can you give yourself high-cholesterol eating too many eggs?

    TIA, Beth
  • I found the below to be a quite interesting article. See if this may help answer your question.

  • Oooh thanks, RitzyFritz! That was a great article.

I try to eat whole foods as much as possible so I don't think I ingest a lot of cholesterol. I've found a great article...

... that says dietary cholesterol is not as big a factor as people used to think it was anyway. I rarely eat butter, cheese, ice cream, red meat, fast food. I never eat margarine, vegetable shortening. I've cut out all partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, deep-fried anything. Like I said I can't tolerate eggs cooked in any type of fat and never eat ham, bacon or sausage.

Yipeee! I think this means I don't have to be too concerned with limiting the number of eggs I eat per week - except for the calorie part but I've got that under control as well.

    Thanks, Beth
  • You're welcome! Sounds like you are well on your way! I personally think the eggs play a much smaller part in the cholesterol battle than the other items you mentioned. They are more "natural" than all those chemical-infused man-made substitutes! :-) Enjoy!!
  • Sorry, I am totally lurking and never visit this board but I love eggs.

I just wanted to point out that the cholestrol is only in the yolk. If you do all whites, you can have as many as you please. It's an excellent source of protein. Of course, you said you don't like just whites so trying only have 1 yolk with two whites. If you hate the idea of tossing the yolks, you can do what I do - give it to the dog. It's great for their coat!
