Chicken breast halves?

Hello! I'm new to the board but not to the Beach. I've lost 18 lbs so far. I have what amounts to a probably stupid question but here goes-when you have a recipe that calls for a chix breast half, which alot of recipes do, and you have a bag of individual frozen skinless. boneless chix breasts that you buy at Kroger, Sam's , etc do you cut those in half? or are they already in halves? The bag doesn't say, and the mess I've made trying to unevenlly cut them doesn't seem right either. And if you do need to cut them in half, how do you do it? Any help would be appreciated. Rhonda:D

Hi Captain...and welcome to 3fc!

I consider one piece to be the 1/2 of chicken breast. Depending on how much meat you consider a serving...3 oz, 4 oz or 8 oz....would determine how much chicken you would use. Unless the chunk of meat is really large or particuliarly small, I use one piece and weigh it, if its between 3 & 4 ounces then thats enough for me.

Hi Rhonda,
One of those pieces is considered a breast half. Each chicken has one breast piece and it is usually cut into two pieces along the breast bone, yielding a breast half, whether boneless or with bone. So if the recipe calls for a breast half, you shouldn't need to cut them. It's not a silly question, but the real question is why does a chicken have only one breast?
Congrats on the 18 lbs!
