I was on the Cold Stone Creamery website and they have an icecream that has no sugar and no fat? Do you think this is acceptable on P1. If you go to the website they list the ingredients and everything. It seems ok to me but I'm new to this. Does anyone else know?
I couldn't get any nutritional information from their website, but in the June 2007 issue of Nutrition Action, I found the following info. In a 5oz. serving of their Sinless Very Berry Good, you have 200 calories and 17 grams of sugar. Sinless Health Nut has 490 calories and 21 grams of sugar.
Even their Sinless Light ice creams have between 9 to 30 grams of sugar per 5oz. serving.
If the ice cream is "no sugar added," then the sugar is going to be lactose, right? I've never had the "sinless" ice cream, but I figure that if there is no sugar added and no fat . . . well, the stuff has to be made of something, right? Before I ate it, I'd want to be really clear on what it was I was eating. My guess is that no matter what it is, it will have some sort of thickener or chemical goo that isn't appropriate for SB.
I'll stick with the words of Dr. A--"Ice cream is not a part of the South Beach DIet, although you can enjoy a small amount as a very occasional treat. Personally, when I do enjoy that occasional treat, I'd like to to be a small serving of an out-of-this-world delicious ice cream (minimally processed, with ingredients that I can pronounce) instead of some ice milky type concoction.

Got this from NBC's website. I don't know why they'd differentiate between the two...maybe nonfat dry milk powder and liquid skim milk?

A: WE WENT TO THE AMERICAN DAIRY MANUFACTURERS FOR THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION. THE ANSWER IS THERE'S NO DIFFERENCE. IN JANUARY 1998, THE FDA ALLOWED THE DAIRY INDUSTRY TO CHANGE THE NAME OF SKIM MILK.
THAT'S BECAUSE MANY CONSUMERS THOUGHT SKIM MILK MEANT THE PRODUCT WAS LACKING IMPORTANT VITAMINS AND MINERALS. HOWEVER SKIM MILK IS ONLY LACKING THE FAT. THE BOTTOM LINE IS SINCE 1998, MANUFACTURERS WERE GIVEN THE OPTION OF USING SKIM, NON-FAT, FAT-FREE, OR ZERO FAT ON THEIR PRODUCT.
