Meet My Running Buddy, Apollo The White German Shepherd!

  • Hello!
I thought maybe its time for everyone to meet the guy who keeps me running even when I am super lazy! I got Apollo from a breeder nearly 3yrs ago now, he was just a tiny puppy. He was a gift from my boyfriend, who had been watching me want my own puppy for awhile. When we went to see him I knew immediately that he and I belonged together. He sat in my arms instead of playing with his litter mates like the rest of the puppies did! He was probably the best freaking puppy I have ever had, he was quiet the first day we brought him home, slept through the night by himself (well on the floor by my bed) and actually didn't have my accidents in the house. I wish he could have stayed a puppy forever, he was so gosh darn cute! Unfortunately, they have to grow up and now my small baby boy weighs 125lbs, nearly as much as I do! He is still a super good boy! Although there was that dang phase where he learned to open drawers and he would chew everything to little pieces!

My poor Apollo has had it a little rough though, he has been attacked by 3 different dogs! Thankfully only 1 required an extensive vet visit but it did nearly blind him in 1 eye. Thankfully, he hasn't taken the attacks personally and is still the submissive, friendly guy.

First 2 pictures are him as a puppy and last to as a big brute! Lake picture is this summer on vacation lol
    Meet Apollo!

  • No one really?
  • He´s super cute. I love the puppy pic with his ears up. I fostered a litter of motherless german shepherds last year, and as pups they are just as cute as buttons. I have 2 Goldens right now, and want my next doggie to be a shepherd.
  • He's adorable! I bet you are both glad to have each other.
  • i used to have a white german shepherd named max. they are GREAT dogs. mine looked very very similar (even had the same cream markings on his back legs, ears, and tip of his tail!). his nose was pink and he got up to 105 pounds. his head came up to my hip! he was my baby. i can't believe he's been gone for 4 years.

  • So cute! I love the puppy picture where his ears are half floppy. How far do you run with him?

My running partners are in my avatar... well, I ran with Chase (dog in the back) over the last year but he's 9 now and I want to train for a half marathon, I think that might be a bit much for him I'm going to train Snoop to run with me this year, for short runs I'll try taking them both, but I don't want to take Chase on any long ones. Not sure how I'm going to manage to run with 2 dogs though!

My brother in law used to have a white shepherd named Sam, she passed away a few years ago... we miss her.
  • He is adorable! Actually one of my dogs got chewed on by a white shep, unlike your boy mine unfortunately took it personally. He can play and be with other dogs when he is off leash, but on it dogs he doesn't know cannot be within 10 feet of him without him acting up.

I would love though to run with either of my two big dogs, they are both pretty active, but I am not up to running yet, or at least not anything worth making the dog come along for.
  • Awww, I had a white German Shepherd named Kisa. She was an amazing girl! I miss herr.
  • My mother has a white German Shepard named Casper. He's a giant goofball!!! Sweetest dog ever, but seriously has no idea how big he his! I have a little Schipperke name Zeus and the two of them are best buds!
  • A German Shepherd is my dream dog - one of these days! Apollo is so very handsome!!
  • What a pretty dog!
