constipated kitten

My friend has a 8 week old kitten who is having a hard time pooing. He doesn't poo often, but when he does it is hard and dry. I believe she is feeding him wet food.
I think she's taking him to the vet tomorrow, but is there anything that she can try now? She is very worried about him.
When he wants to go, he lays on the ground and cries...:?:
Thanks for any tips, guys!

without vet intervention there really isn't anything otc. You can try some catlax or laxatone (hair ball remedy ) and see if that helps...but an 8 wk old kitten that is constipated really needs a vet. make sure if his rectum is irritated you can apply some a/d ointment or diper rash cream to ease some of the irritation. However, this could be very serious. Some animals have such issues that they can develop a rectal prolapse (part of the rectum pops out). I would recommend if he's really bad off, take him to the e/r.

Thanks, that's what I've been advising her to do!

Pumkin. My vet told me to feed my constipated kitten pumkin... which you can buy in almost any store canned. BTW I never thought the kitten would eat it but he LOVED it. But this was after I got an x-ray to rule out some blockage.
