Names
I have a question? Do you gals think it's wrong if one your child has a special meaning behind the name or a common name and then the other has a very unique uncommon name?
Like my first born her name is Emma Eliana..Emma is VERY common now. But it was my grandma's name and was special too me!
My hubby and I have already decided if we have a boy then we are naming him Kayden James. Which I like. I don't hear it too often and it says it unisex but everyone I know says they like it for a boy.
Here is my issue, if we have another girl I really really like the name
Novalee Faith. I know it's very different, but I absolutely love it. I Love butterflys and the meaning of Novalee is chasing butterflys. I think it is such a sweet meaning, and it's a very uncommon name, but not hard. And I like faith because I my middle name is Hope.
So has anyone else did this? Had a child with a common name and then a uncommon name? Like I don't want my children to be like why did you give her a common name and not me? lol. I dunno maybe I am over analyzing.

All my boys have a biblical theme going on....old test first name and new test. middle name. My two girls don't have any theme at all. My girls are named Kimberly and Lillianna. I loved the name Lily, I swore I would name my next girl Lily. So many, many years later I became pregnant and we found out she was a girl, the first thing I said was "My Lily." It took a lot of searching to come up with a name we both liked and Lillianna was the winner, for short we call her Lily.

I think it is fine. We are doing sorta the same thing our son's name is Kayden (I like your choice for a boys name )and this which is a girl will be more traditional Virginia. So I think it is fine to mix and match like that.

Well I was the first born daughter, and my name is Jessica, which was the most popular girls name the year I was born. Then my little sister gets the name Lela, which is unique and always got complimented. Growing up I was jealous I didn't have a unique name and always wished I'd been named something more unique since I'd always have 3 other Jessica's in my class. But then we got older and I have boobs and she doesn't sooooo win some, lose some. ha

I would be jealous, I think. And I'd also feel excluded about the middle name. You said for your second daughter you wanted it to be Faith because yours is Hope - that's a pretty awesome connection between you and your second daughter, but it excludes the first. (That's how *I* would feel.)

Well my first daughter is named after my Grandma so it's still a very important name. And I gave it to her because my grandma is an important part of my life and who I am. My grandma is really sick and I'm sure she won't be around to watch my daughter grow up and I wanted her to have a piece of my grandma. She was the only grandparent I really had because all the others died when I was younger- and I don't remember them much!

You can name them anything you want!
Each separate time my 3 best friends were pregnant we were deciding on names and we wrote all of the contending names on a fake resume and decided "who" we thought would be the potential president of the "company" they were applying to.
Silly I know, in about 40 years I'll let you know how the experiment worked.

I have 3 boys and 1 girl on the way, and each of their names were chosen for its own special reason. I've taught 5th grade for a long time and every year we find research our full names. I find that for most children, what's important is the story of why their parents chose that name especially for them. It doesn't really matter if the reasons were different for the choosing of their sibling's names, because it is their specific, special story. Children who are named after characters from books feel just as special as those named after relatives or those whose names were chosen because the parents thought the name was beautiful or unique, just like they would be.
IMO you can't go wrong, just choose the name that you'll feel proud to tell your child about when he/she asks.

Pick whatever name you like. I don't think kids much care why you picked it. My name is Barbara , I don't know why my parents picked that and I have never liked it.

Pick names you like, end of story. Seriously, it's better to struggle with spelling something correctly than hating the name down the road.
