Well... so much for waiting to get down to 180/170. I had a dentist appt today & decided to take a preg test before I went, JUST IN CASE, since I'm expecting TOM today or tomorrow... I wanted to make sure if xrays were OK or not. It was POSITIVE! YAY! But now the worrying begins, since I've had 2 miscarriages in the past. Think good thoughts everyone.

I started this whole thing in July when my husband and I decided we wanted to try for a baby. Because of pretty much every fertility problem imaginable, we are going to have to use IVF, which is pricey, to put it mildly. Losing weight/getting into shape is the best insurance for having it work, since we can only afford to try once or twice. Not that this will all be "wasted" if it doesn't work, but, oh, my, I want it to.

It feels really presumptuous to be even talking about wanting a baby: I think for so many years it seemed impossible--me, morbidly obese and so low on energy that I couldn't imagine taking proper care of a child, and my husband kinda lukewarm on the idea (and I never, ever wanted to "talk him into it"--it had to be something he wanted entirely on his own). So I really go used to thinking of babies as "not for me" when people talked about them. Now I hesitate to bring it up with my GP and I hesitate to make an appointment with an reproductive endocrinologist because I am sure, on some irrational level, that they will laugh at me and say "You, a baby? That's crazy. That's for parents, not people like you."

Well it is official...we will start trying mid-May. I had a miscarriage two years ago with an unexpected pregnancy. I did eat healthy and take pre-natal vitimans but only after finding out I was pregnant. This time I have taken little steps for my health for about a year and cranked it up a notch in March-I have been watching what I eat, exercising and taking pre-natal vitamins. Physically I feel good and mentally I am ready to do this.

The step I had to take was going to the doctors. I went today. I weighed in at 174.2-not where I was three years ago when I got married (~165) but I was pleased. Last year I had to go to the docs in May and weighed 189 then so I am better off than last year.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you ladies.

Congratulations Change! That is excellent news. I am 8wks pg and finding that my fussy tummy and serious smell aversions are making it impossible to stay on my eating plan. So... I am trying to do the best I can and not let things get out of hand. I know that the more I gain, the more uncomfortable I will be at the end of the pregnancy and I really want to keep that to a minimum. BUT I also know that I CAN and WILL lose it at the end, so I'm trying not to freak out. Good luck to you & everybody else out there!!!

Thought i'd bump up this thread for those inquisitive minds out there like mine! I've been peeking into this area of 3FC as I'm a habitual planner and that means I need to know what I'm getting into when it comes to baby time! Anyone else out there feel the same???

I'm a little early maybe as we're not planning on starting until next year... but that'll be here before we know it! I'm leaning towards starting around March 2011 and the hubby is leaning more towards fall 2011 (but I think that's just because he wants us to be able to drink and party over the summer )
We're basically aiming for next year to make sure our finances are in order, my career is in the right spot for me to take off for a while, and of course it gives us time to get into optimal baby-making health hopefully

So! How does everyone else feel about this prep time? Any suggestions from the successful baby-makers?
