Thanks to met and healthy eating I am winning my PCOS battle. I have now had three ovulatory cycles in a row and have lost 50 lbs. My hormones are normalizing and I've had IPL done on my facial hair which is now almost non-existant. I'm finally starting to feel like a normal woman. Metformin is a wonder drug for me!!
Congrats to you!! Met has also worked wonders for me - I was dx'd IR in July 2004 and have been on Met ever since ... however, only after my dose was increased over 1500 mgs did I notice a real difference ... At 37 I now have a more regulated AF cycle than I've had my whole life - it's wonderful!
I also believe that Met has helped me on my weightloss journey ... for some reason ((???)) I stopped taking my Met for 2 wks in Sept - during which time my weight loss stalled - once I started back I had a big drop ... can't help but think that combined with my food choices and working out that the Met helped.
hi - Are you dieting too, or just taking the glucophage?
Dieting also. For me, met has to be combined with healthy eating and exercise for it to work so well. I'm currently on my fourth ovulatory cycle in a row. This is the most regular I've ever been. In the 4 1/2 years we ttc #2 I only had two ovulatory cycles. And the reason I finally conceived is because of met and healthy eating. Clomid did nothing for me.
wow, I dont believe that there is actually a forum for this in here! Where was this 15 years ago when I was trying to concieve? I have PCOS, and Glucose Intolerence. I tried clomid as well as all the injections, I also tried IVF. I was on Metformin and at first it worked for me and then after a year it stopped working. I ended up off it for 6 months before I was finally able to see my Endocrinologist and in that time I gained 45lbs! She then put me on a higher dose of Met that made me sick. After struggling with this for 6 months she then started me on Meridia. That was in March. I am on a low dose right now and at first it worked...but now I have been on a plateau for the past month and a half. I dont want to gain back the weight I just finished losing and could really use some motivational friends. I see my endocrinologist again next month.
My name is Amanda, I'm 27 and live in SW Pennsylvania. I have PCOS and was officially dx May 02 when DH and I went to see a reproductive endocrinologist. I've only had a handful of periods on my "own" since the age of 12. I did a cycle of Clomid and it did nothing, went on to Follistim and timed intercourse, still nothing. Gonal-F and IUI, conceived twins, sadly went into preterm labor at 21w3d and both babies passed away several hours after birth. Got pregnant again using Follistim and IUI, twins, Baby "A" stopped growing at (7) weeks but Baby "B"better known as Teagan Elisabeth was born healthy and happy on October 3, 2004 after 10 weeks of bedrest. Was Dx with Gestational Diabetes at 26 weeks, highest weight during my pregnancy was 304 ( I started at around 293) and after delivery I was 260lbs. Somehow managed to gain the weight back and am currently 290lbs..... Ugh.
I'm thinking of seeing a regular endocrinologist to get the PCOS under control, I'm currently low carbing and taking BCP.
Looking forward to getting to know some of you better.
do any of you know...my friend has PCOS badly and she is opting for a hysterectomy soon, because all the meds she is on are NOT working. Do any of you know if having a FULL hysterectomy will aleviate the symptoms of PCOS (like the hair growth, excess weight, ect..) Her and I were talking and I dont know if it would be the solution she is looking for...but I sure hope it is. All reasoning tells me it would make a huge difference since the problematic area (ovaries) would be GONE...anyone?
I am so happy for you that you are feeling better. I am so very frustrated I was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago and wasnt even told about it. I have had 4 different doctors OB and MD and not one of them has done any treatment with me at all what so ever. I am 33 years old and my hair has been falling out for quite some time now. I feel miserable and I cant seem to get any help. I used to have a full head of thick hair and now it is so thin and getting thinner! I have state insurance Health plus medicaid so I believe they just dont care what happends to me. My OB has even said if I had blue cross blue shield it would be better. My insurance covers everything that the other insurances do except I have to have refferals from my primary physician to see a specialist. I called and endocrinologist yesterday and just cried because I have not been tested for IR or anything else for that matter. They just let me sit here with no periods and feeling terrible. All they do is send me back and fourth between OB and MD. I have no meds no diet plan no help no nothing. I told my MD that my hair is coming out and he said well Heather your still beautiful. I said to him, "I am not going to be beautiful if I am bald". I am so freakin angry!!!!! I need help UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
Hi All! My name is Erin and I'm new to the forums as of today. I was diagnosed with PCOS in the summer and am currently only on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I was diagnosed by my gynecologist who didn't see the need to send me to an endocrinologist and wasn't really interested in hearing my questions about glucophage because my insulin/blood glucose levels are still normal. I am hoping to regulate things with diet and exercise but we will see how that goes. (A side note: at this point in my life (23 and in law school), the fertility issues don't concern me too much because I'm not planning to have children any time soon and if I do want them I am comfortable with adoption).
Unfortunately I am a destitute student with lousy health insurance so I can't afford to be picky about doctors right now. That said, I definitely think that if your primary doc's response to "my hair is falling out!" is "you're still beautiful", that you should report him to the AMA for being a jerk and incompetent and find another doctor. It is incredibly frustrating to have a physician who doesn't take you or your health concerns seriously, and you deserve better than that! Tell that jerk where to shove it and find someone who listens to your concerns!
NEWBIE HERE...glad to see that it truly is working for you...met makes me physically ill...though we are trying to up the dosage a little at a time...I hope that between met, eating healthier and the treadmill....we will be joining you soon in winning the battle~
