Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels is hands down the best book I have ever read regarding metabolism/hormones/regaining control. It actually explains hormones in NORMAL LANGUAGE! It also explains how to get rid of the bad, restore the good and rebalance your systems. One thing I love is that it explains how to choose appropriate carbs, etc depending on what is going on with you. For instance, avoid corn and wheat when possible and instead choose oats or barley. And no carbs at night.
