Default Getting off the pill and weight loss

So Reading this thread:

Birth Control Pills for PCOS

I found that I'm actually taking one of the less beneficial form of the pill for PCOS. Funny thing is lately I feel like I have this huge mass of belly fat also... No I'm not pregnant.

Anyways- I'm considering just getting off the pill. Anyone done this with their PCOS and found they were doing better? I'm hoping this will pull me out of my weight loss slump.

ME!

I got off BCP and I started losing weight!

Granted, it was part of a bigger change in my lifestyle, but I always felt that the BCP was stopping me from eating healthy because I was having stomach problems anyway because of the pill.

Go for it -- you never know!!!!!

I've kept my periods too.

This was just my experience, but my symptoms went totally haywire when I stopped bcp. The bcp was keeping the activity quiet in my ovaries, so once they started working again things went nuts. I gained about 20lbs.

Thanks Rana that is what I'm hoping for.

Junebug when you got on the pill did you gain? I gained 40 lbs alone when I started on the pill- that's why I'm thinking that getting off the pill might help since I've changed my diet and I exercise but I've just hit a wall and my body pretty much refuses to budge anymore.

My body went a bit nuts when I stopped taking BCP in the past. Bloating, weight gain, acne, you name it. I've tried the implant this year, but it's just not cutting it for me, so I'm going to go back to the pill.

That's why you may have the opposite experience. I could only lose weight once I was on the pill consistently. I lost all my weight on it. I went on it at 22 and off it at 27 and at the tail end of that I noticed my gains were extra stubborn to get rid of, but that may have had something to do with age? I don't really know. But I do know that going off the pill was a disaster. If you aren't able to lose on it, it may bring about the exact opposite.

I suspect it has something to do with the source of the problem. I am not IR on paper, but my ovaries were a mess off bcp. That was where the trouble was manifesting. I had ovarian drilling, which changed everything. I lost 25lbs in 3 months, acne went away (literally overnight), no more pelvic pain, and I immediately started having perfect 28 day cycles. So that was the source of the issue for me.

I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, but something's up. I stopped the pill in December and have had nothing but trouble...weight gain though I've changed nothing in my maintenance plan, break-outs, bloating. You name it, I've had issues with it.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Yeah Junebug I also had cysts when I had been on the pill for years- last time I was checked (last year) I had no cysts but my doctor feels it was due to losing over 35 lbs (at that time) and the change in diet and increase in exercise.

I'll try a month and see what happens- worst case scenario I'll just be back on the pills but will choose a more appropriate pill for my PCOS. I'd hate to be taking something that is making my IR worse.

I follow a low carb diet so hopefully that will keep me from at least gaining. Hubby and I plan on having a child soon and I'm feeling desperate to lose more weight. My doctor wants me to get into the 160s before TTC.

when i started the pill (yasmin) i actually lost weight(19 pounds to be exact) since i went off the pill in February i have gained all of that weight back except for 5lbs of it.

my periods have regulated themselves but i don't know long that will last since im gaining weight again. and whenever i gain weight my hormones go hay wire.

In my experience, I lose weight easier when on the pill. When I am off the pill that's usually when I will gain 20-30lbs in a 2 month span.

Also, I have this problem because I don't ovulate and I am estrogen dominant that all the extra estrogen causes my uterus lining to thicken. Then, when I finally get a period I will bleed for 6+ months with out intervention.
Everytime I end up in the E.R because the bleeding get's ridiculous I feel like I am going to bleed to death. (And a $5,000 dollar bill--- currently paying one from June down)

So, at 26, I have finally learned just to stay on the darn pill! It keeps my testosterone levels down and I don't have to worry about the excess estrogen and possible cancer from a thickened uterus.
