Default Upping my met dose?

I've been on met for about 3 weeks now, only taking 500mg once a day at dinner. So far I haven't had any bad side effects, I've also really changed my eating, lots less fat and carbs. I'm going to be upping it to twice a day and am a little worried about it. Last time I was on met (years ago) I had the horrible bathroom side effects, but I was eating super bad, mostly fast food. Any advice? Like if I'm going to have bad side effects, any idea how long it takes to get into your system and start making a difference?

hi luckymeeks,
Are you taking the regular metformin or the extended release? The extended release is much better for me as far as side effects go. However once I got used to it I didn't have a lot of stomach problems w/either after about 2-3 weeks. If you're already eating lower fats and carbs then you're avoiding a lot of the foods that gave me problems w/metformin my first go around with it. Maybe some of the other members will have more advice. I hope that the increase goes well and that it helps with your symptoms.

Thanks for the reply babble. I'm taking the regular met, not xr. I have a hard time swallowing pills due to an enlarged thyroid thus the regular so I can cut it in half. I've got my fingers crossed hoping it will go good, I've got a job that I can't exactly jump up and run to the bathroom (which is far from my desk anyway LOL). But I'm really optimistic since no problems at all with the one pill. I think I'll start it Thursday though, the way I understand you usually will see side effects within 48 hours, not sure if that's true though. But if it is, that will be the weekend and I'll be home.
