Default I have a PCOS question

I have never been diagnosed with it but my husband is convinced I should be tested. The only 'symptom' I have is strange rashes that I get before my period and I didn't even know that could be a PCOS symptom. My husband was chatting with someone at his work and apparently our rashes are similar that that's what she was diagnosed with, she was put on glucophage(sp) I was told that the rashes could be an autoimmune disorder and Im allergic to my hormones but I don't know which ones. The rashes started in the 3rd trimester of my 1st pregnancy, sometimes it will go dormant for months even a year, then right back, a few days before my period, there it is either on my hands, under my arms, on my legs, just different places. Its my knuckles right now. Sorry for the ramble, just wondered if anyone has anything like this?

I've was diagnosed with PCOS in June. I don't recall reading about rashes in any of the literature. Do you have abnormal TOM's, hair loss (or gain) or mood problems? Next time you are at the DR's office ask them to check your testosterone levels....if they are higher than "normal" range it's a sure sign PCOS. It took me ten years to get diagnosed! In most cases all it takes is a simple blood sample or ultrasound.

The more usual ones are as Msahaller says, rashes is an obscure one and could be symptomatic of anything, really.

That said, I got vitiligo last year - and that's suppsoed to be autoimmune. And I've seen since, on PCOS forums, a disproportionate number of women with PCOS seem to have autoimmune problems too. So there may be a link?

Either way get yourself checked out, and you may get some answers.

This girl found out through ultra sound I think and her hormone issue was progesterone. My hair falls out by the ton it seems but apparently I still have plenty but its not as think as it used to be. I have weight gain obviously but I contribute that to lack of exercise and over eating. TOM's seem pretty normal to me. I start on time every month, every once in awhile it's off by a day or so. really heavy bleeding on the first 2 days, sometimes 3 then light spotting up to 7th day. Like I said before, The rashes started in the last trimester of my 1st pregnancy and I have had 2 more children since then and never had a problem getting pregnant.

I don't think you have PCOS just for the fact it's rashes- BUT I think you should get those rashes checked out- who knows maybe some simple cream will alleviate the problem- my mother had a rash problem turned out it was fungus- she had to use some medication and then after that it's never returned.

I mean I have PCOS- I have almost all the symptoms, extra hair growth, virtually no periods, dandruff, gain weight easy, insulin resisitance, and so on.

I just found out I have PCOS today (which was sort of out of the blue but anyways) I don't remember the last time I had a rash to be honest. I don't see how that could be PCOS related though I'm still learning.

There are 3 parts to pcos, according to my doctor
1. physical - missed or irregular periods
2. blood work - for this you would have high testosterone/androgens, or possibly glucose issues (fast before your appt if your gonna ask for this test). Some other hormones can be out of whack (I dont think thyroid is one of them for PCOS)
3. cysts - for this you have painful periods and cysts that hurt on your ovaries, they tend to look like a chain of pearls on u/s

My doctor says if you have 2 areas out of the 3 above, you have PCOS. My old OBGYN had no clue.

There are many many symptoms, but the only skin rash type one I recall is the birth mark type ones, no rashes. I would suggest taking your DH to barnes and noble and go to the womens health section and look for books on PCOS and see if you have any of the other usual symptoms.

to put your mind at rest, I'd specifically ask your doctor to run some labs checking your hormone levels.

I thought I might have PCOS when I started researching, so when the DR said she thought that's what it was I wasn't surprised. I never had any types of rash though. So far we've confirmed 1 of the 3 on Tamii's list. I've already done all my blood work 2 weeks ago and I have an appointment Friday for the ovaries ultrasound.
