Sorry but a-fib got me again earlier this week. I let myself get dehydrated and went into a-fib again. Dr. uped my med so I have been off work for over a week. Doing better now...hope to go back to work on monday.
Good news though...even though I have been having medical problems I have now lost 14 lbs and am almost to the place where I first started. That is kodos for me. Will check in tomorrow...meds do make me tired so I take them at night and they are starting to work. Have a wonderful night.

Mommyto3- Iv'e been reading this thread and it sounds like you may be carb sensitive... as I am... you might do better with south beach, I tried adding "good carbs" and my loss came to a halt..
try to cut the carbs down to 30-40 per day.. and add more protein. the weight just melts off and the added protein will stop the carb cravings.
a protein powder will give you protein w/o a lot of calories.
A really good book is Michael Eades "protein power"

After some research, I am doing this plan. It seems the most sensible to me, even if I didn't have PCOS (which I am planning to get into complete remission!). You can have carbs, but when you know you have to link them a certain way, you are really careful about *which* carbs you choose, when, how and with what...
After a bit, it isn't difficult, and I love that I can pretty much go anywhere and find *something* that will work -- even if it is only an apple and a few cheese cubes as a snack out and about until I can get to a decent meal lol
I really like it so far, and am having a lot of success

I also just got this book and have been reading through it, to me at least it sounds logical, and not like a diet. You can eat pretty much what you want to its just how you eat it. Does this seem like the zone diet to anyone else though?

I've been MIA lately!! I had a very sick daughter. She had a stomach virus, got dehydrated, and we ended up in the hospital. It took several several days for life to return to normal, but all is well again.
I went to a new dr for my annual physical (which I haven't had in a few years I'm ashamed to say). I really liked this dr. She was compassionate and knowledgeable about insulin resistance. She gave me a prescription for glucophage, so I am going to ease into taking it. I'm supposed to call her back next Monday to get the results of all my bloodwork, etc.
Someone mentioned that I sound really sensitive to carbs and should try South Beach. I am definitely sensitive to carbs, but I really didn't like South Beach. I've tried it a couple of times, and I just couldn't stick to it (not that I stick to anything really) I've thought about trying it again, but I doubt that it would be any different this time. I really like the IR diet...I just need to do a better job with planning and grocery shopping so that I can do it better.
I hope that everyone is doing well. I'm so happy to be on glucophage. I hope that it will make a difference for me.

Hi, anyone out there? I hope so!! I just started the Insulin Resistance Diet 2 days ago and am hoping for friends to compare notes with. I had the book for a year but couldn't get into it until now. I have just come off my second try with WW but was not having success with it, totally my own fault. I just was not being disciplined so after 6 months of only losing 9 pounds I gave it a rest.
I am hoping this will be the answer for me. It sure sounds like I am a perfect candidate for it. So far it has been great. The linking and balancing are pretty easy to do and the part about only exercising for 25 minutes at one time and keeping my heartrate at about 125 is a relief. I have been killing myself with aerobics and did not realize I was using the protein in my body after 25 minutes and was also having much too high of a heart rate when I am exercising. I have been like a hamster on a wheel, trying so hard and doing things to sabotage myself.
Anyone know of a protein bar that has the right balance to eat after working out as is instructed in the book (eating protein soon after working out is recommended).
Thanks!

Hey I was considering doing this as well but my body craves carbs so I feel like I need to get back on South Beach for a little while to get "detoxed" of carbs and sugar again. It seems to be the only thing that has worked for me in the past and lord knows eating the way I am right now is not doing anything good for me. Let me know how this seems to work for you, maybe after my detox period I will try this

Quite a few of the bars are balanced..look at them. South Beach has a few.

I hope everyone doesn't mind me butting in, but I'm like Curlylocks, I'm really carb sensitive and carbs give me really bad cravings. It's only when I started doing South Beach this week (I'm 10 days in and 4lb down) that I realised how bad my carb cravings were. I would eat a normal Weight Watchers recipe, usually pasta or rice and within 10 minutes of eating I'd be scrabbling around the kitchen frantically hunting for bread or sugary foods to eat.
I don't get those cravings on South Beach, I don't constantly think about food, I'm not miserable thinking I want something and I can't have it. I go hours without thinking about food and it's all because I don't eat bread or potatoes at all and rice or pasta once a week at the most (I do eat tortilla wraps and pitas, both wholemeal and both very occasionally). I can even control chocolate now which I've never been able to do, if there was chocolate in the house, I would have to eat it, and eat it all until it was completely gone.
South Beach has made all the difference to me in the world.

Hello everyone
I am new to the forum, and have just been diagnosed with insuline resistance. I did a search on the web and found out about this book, so I am going to give it a try. Your thread has been very useful for me and i hope I can join in more.
Best wishes all

Hi all!! I'm new here!!
I changed to the Insulin Resistance way of eating about 8 years ago after I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I lost approximately 20 pounds by following this way of eating and exercising a little.
