I don't strictly do the IR Diet anymore; what I do is more South-Beach style. But I still use the link-and-balance principle and usually don't go over 30g carbs in a particular meal, I feel it's pretty critical to controlling the insulin cycle. However, I also do not eat any white flour / white sugar / white rice, because they are just devoid of nutrition and I'm not interested in wasting the calories, nor in feeling like crap after I eat them. So in case it helps, here's approximately what I'm eating today (not entirely sure about dinner yet, but this is typical):

Breakfast
1 cup blueberries
1 cup nonfat plain yogurt
2 tbsp ground flaxseed
ground ginger to taste
cal-mag-zinc supplement
vitamin d supplement

Snack
1/4 cup steel cut oats
1 cup milk
cinnamon to taste
fish-oil supplement
green tea

Lunch
Handful baby carrots
Can of water-packed salmon
Juice from half a lemon on the salmon
2 cups baby spinach
1/2 pink grapefruit
1 ounce prunes
1 cup vegetable juice
fish-oil supplement
vitamin c supplement

Snack
Between lunch and dinner I'm typically not hungry, but I like to chew on sugarless gum and drink more green tea.

Dinner
4 oz stir-fried chicken
Stir-fried veggies (usually broccoli, bell pepper, onions, mushrooms)

Snack
2 tbsp peanut butter
1 ounce dried figs
1 tsp honey
1 ounce whole-wheat bread
1 cup milk

Thanks for sharing your menu with me. I really appreciate it. I noticed your ticker and you've lost a lot of weigh so far! Congratulations! Have you lost it with IR diet?

Deborah, I haven't been able to log on all weekend because we have been trying to get some planting done before the rain comes this week. I just read your post about trying to sneak a snack and I tried sneaking some cheese squares today and one of my students with Asperger's looked at me and said "What is that? Are you sharing with everyone?" So, my remedy to that is, "Here are some goldfish, eat these while I eat this piece of cheese!" She loved it!! She said "Can we have a secret snack tomorrow too?"

Hi there! I replied to your post on the other bb for the IR thread. I'm mythreechildren there. I'm hoping that the traffic on both will pick up on both. I'm really excited about this woe. I'm losing weight for the first time in a good while, and I'm starting to feel better too. I'm walking on my treadmill every day, and it feels like everything is starting to fall into place.

Good luck to you!

Can I join this group? This is my first post here. I've been lurking on different diet forums and it's time to step up.

I signed up on the author's website for the Stay on Track Program. It's reduced from 19.95 to 7.95 a month. I look forward to the teleconferences.

I have the book but haven't read it yet. However, I read a really good summary of it over on the soulcysters PCOS site, and it sums up the program pretty good. It sounds too simple to be true. My doctor recommended this to me on my last visit, and I immediately bought the book.

Well, hi everyone.

Hi there! The more the merrier! I'm so happy to see this thread building! Overall this woe has been very simple for me, and I have lost a few lbs this week which is nothing short of a miracle in and of itself. I have really been struggling. I've done weight watcher's for a month and literally gained 4 lbs. I stuck to it FAITHFULLY, followed their healthy guidelines to a T and gained! I went on alli...lost nothing. Both of these are things I have been able to lose weight very easily on in the past. Unfortunately my IR is just too severe now.

I love this woe BUT I will say that today has not gone well at all. In fact it was a total bust for several reasons (most were avoidable but some were not). That's life and I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I'm going to jump back on the wagon and move forward. Hopefully it won't have done too much damage. Whatever the case, I will deal with it.

Deborah, don't beat yourself up; some days are just like that.

I was pretty unsuccessful on Weight Watchers too. In fact I've probably tried them all. This is my first day of truly following the plan, and so far so good.

I expect I'll lose very slowly, especially now that menopause has hit. But I want to be healthy. I'm 55 and my years of yearning to be model thin are long gone! A curvy size 14 would even sound good to me now.

I have about 60ish pounds to lose. Don't know how I let myself get this way, but no use in beating myself up now. And I'm sure my insulin resistance was a huge factor.

Anyway, off to church. Have a great day.

Confession time! One bad day turned into TWO! I don't know what happened. I have probably undone everything that I had done BUT I know that I can get back on track with my next meal/snack and I have every intention of doing so. I've made out my list of favorite IR breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.

I just wish that I understood why I do this to myself.

Deborah, just pick yourself up and keep on going. One thing I myself have to learn is that it's not the occasional digresses, but the things we do the majority of the time that count. Just get back on plan and do the best you can.

Right now I have a low carb coffee cake in the oven (I changed some of the ingredients so that it's low fat too). I have no idea how it will taste, but I remember the old, high fat version was excellent. We'll see. I'm trying to watch my fats as well, but some fat free, low fat stuff is awful. I think it's more important to just link and balance, but I know I can't stick a bunch of butter on my veggies and fool myself into losing weight.

Anyway, don't give up. Just keep on going.

Okay guys...today I am back on track no matter what! I'm not kicking myself in the rear anymore, and I'm not going to continue to spiral out of control. The scale was unkind to me this morning, but I did it to myself. Hopefully a couple of days back on track will take care of the couple of days I spent off track.

I'm glad that more people are coming out of lurkdom and joining in! It will be great to have a big active group posting here!

Today is going MUCH better, I am happy to report! I feel better physically and emotionally as a result. I wish that I could remember how bad it makes me feel BEFORE I blow it next time!

I'm so glad I found this forum. I bought the book a few weeks ago and am planning on starting tomorrow. I've been on a lot of different diets over the years, but I'm finding it much harder to lose weight then it used to be, so I'm hoping the IR diet will work for me. I'm looking forward to reading about others diet journeys and menu ideas. Thanks!

Hey all...Have not been doing so good. Have trailed off the plan a little bit...but today is a new day and I am restarting it today. I have been taking some time for me and also I am having sinus problems and I cannot take decongestents because they can put me into a-fib so I have to suffer the pain. I have found a saline solution that does not have preservatives in it and it really goes up the nasal passage and that helps.
I did sleep better last night because of the otc med. So am feeling better today. I am gonna straighten up the house with dh's help, then I get to do some work at home for my bus...arranging seats for my kiddies. That is always fun...LOL. Other than that it is okay. The four days off really helped me.
Mommy...as you can see your probably read this already.
How are you all doing?
