Well foot! My post disappeared before it went through! I just discovered this diet. I bought this book over Christmas break, but decided to give it a try when 2 week of weight watchers yielded no loss...NONE! I followed the new momentum plan to a T. My insulin resistance is just too out of control now. My body doesn't even work the way it used to. I'm hoping that we can get an active group going here, because I am going to give it my ALL. I've run out of options, and I am not willing to let prediabetes win!

I came home from the doctor today and googled the terms that were thrown my way during our session, PCOS and IR. I am glad to see that there are others out there going through this and that you are supporting each other. I started tonight watching the carbs. Is anyone having to use a glucometer (sp?)? Before my dr.'s appointment today I had already started walking 5 days a week at least 2 miles a day, now I really have to do it to get my insulin in check! Any tips, recipes, and ideas are greatly appreciated.

I really hope that some of the people who were/are following this plan will come back. I've only been following it for 2 days, but maybe I can give you an idea. You can eat anything (pretty much) BUT you have to link-balance every time you eat carbs. You have to link a carb to a protein. Protein can be eaten anytime you are hungry. This is what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast
Rice Krispies
Milk

Snack
Triscuits
cheese cubes

Lunch
ham/cheese wrap
carrots/ranch dip
apple
100 cal snack

Snack
yogurt (naturally linked/balanced correctly)

Snack
Sunflower seeds

Supper
grilled chicken salad w/ lite honey mustard
100 cal snack
milk

You are supposed to snack every 2-3 or so hours to keep glucose levels leveled. You can snack on protein anytime you're hungry. Each snack should have 15 g carb to 7 g protein. You can have up to 30 g of carb to 14 g protein but no more carbs at any one sitting. You don't have to count certain carbs, like the ones in vegetables (excluding corn/potatoes) or the carbs in milk. There's a lot more to it, but this is just a quick run down of the things that pop into my head right now.

Gotta run, but I will try to check back and add more if you have any questions. Hopefully others who are following this plan will check in soon.

Hello, I have been doing this for a week. I do feel better. There are quite a few comments on Amazon about this diet. They also have a forum about it. There aren't been many recent comments but you can get the "feel" of the diet from the comments that are there. I would like to hear more recents results. Debbie

I have been reading the comments at Amazon, and I started posting there a couple of days ago. I just posted there telling them that there was a little discussion here as well.

Deborah,
Thank you so much for the tips and an idea of a daily meal and what to look for. I'm hoping to be able to pick the book up this weekend when I visit my sister. They have the book in stock in a bookstore there. Thank you so much!!!

I just bought the book yesterday and started reading how the eating part of the plan goes this morning. I started linking in step 1. That seems to work well. I haven't gotten very far into the balancing part in section 2.

This is one of the best books around...I did not know about insulin resistance until I read about it in woman's world quite a while ago. Ir diet has a website...irdiet.com. Check it out.

You can do it! Just stay focused. I'm trying to lose some of this weight because I want to have a baby! Think of how great you will feel running around with your kids in the yard this summer!

I'm trying really hard to stick to the diet, and can do it with my main meals, but snacks are killing me. I am a kindergarten teacher and my planning period isn't until 1p.m. I have breakfast at 5 lunch at 11 and at our school, we don't do snacks or nap time at our school. Sneaking in a snack is so difficult for me. On Monday's I can sneak one in because we watch an alphabet video that lasts 30 minutes. But that is the only day that I can get one in. Is anyone in the same situation as me? Does anyone have any suggestions? I've lost about 4 pounds. I have lost more inches than weight though. I was not able to walk as much as I would like the past 2 weeks because of obligations to have to stay after school 4 days each week (some until 8p.m.). But I'm hoping that I will be able to get back to it this week.

I'm a teacher too, but I have a really good situation. I teach middle school sped, and I have a full-time assistant. I have a refrigerator in my room, and easy access to snacks/snacking. If you could keep some cheese cubes or apple wedges in a cooler or something...maybe you could sneak a bite here or there. That's tough because I can only imagine how busy you are. You also have all those little eyes on you at all times!

Default Ir Diet

Hello Ladies

I have read through all the post and i'm glad to see a thread about the IR diet. I started dabbling with this diet a couple of years ago. I am diabetic and the doctor did say she belives I have PCOS. I feel I do myself I have done a lot of reading about PCOS and I have a lot of the symptoms.

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I was scared and followed all advise and lost 15 pounds in about a months time. Well I should have stayed scared I fell off the wagon big time. I now feel its time to stop playin with not just my health but my life. I am going to go back and read the IR diet and get back on plan.

I have been reading on the Real Age(Dr. OZ YOU: on a diet) boards, it seems like a very do-able plan also. He also gives a break down of exercise that are very simple to incorperate. I think I will combine the two palns. He even has the exercises videos on the site or printable versiosns.

I hope this board stays active. He really helps to have other for support.

I borrowed the insulin resistance diet and am reading through it now. I will be following the principles (or am going to attempt it) with the guidelines of southbeach. South beach seems more restrictive as to what carbs to eat.. meaning instead of white potatoes you eat sweet potatoes. But so far this diet seems to have better guidelines as to link and balance! I just ate my dinner and couldn't finish it! I think I'm all set for the evening with maybe just a snack later if I need it, it's only 330!

I'm back on track today and it feels good to be back in control. I'm curious as to what everyone is eating though. I would love it if you would give me a sample of your meals/snacks. I know that nothing is off limits, but I don't want to burn out so please share you meal plan for today!

This is what I had today:

Breakfast
1/2 peanut butter sandwich
milk

Snack
string cheese

Lunch
ham & cheese on lite tortilla
yogurt

Snack
100 cal lorna doone
milk

Supper
This is where I will get in trouble. I have to eat out tonight because my kids have basketball practice. I will try to eat a salad so that I can get some veggies in....a definite area of needed improvement (fruits too!)
