Question new today

I am new to this site today and have been considering joining OA. I need the one on one that I don't get other places. This thread isn't too active but I hoped someone would be able to guide me in how to get a sponsor and what a sponsor does. I need to lose 100 pounds for health and personal satisfaction but have tried so many times I am feeling foolish for even thinking I can accomplish this. I have let myself down so many times .. I really need to understand the concept of sponsorship. Thanks.

Hi Waterlilli,

I am attending an OA meeting tonight, sorry I can't offer much advice, I do think going to the meetings and just doing it is the best way to learn though..

Good luck xx

I don't have any OA advice -- sorry -- but just as some information that may help on this site -- have you tried the 100lb club?

Lots of people are there who are trying to achieve, and have, weight loss of 100+ plus. It's a very active forum and a great source for support.

Good luck with finding the OA info you need!

Default OA Sponsor

OA has helped me understand and deal with compulsive eating. I've lost a lot of weight but it is much more than a diet club. Sponsors are regular OA members who have had success working the steps of OA and agree to help on a personal level. Since you are in MA., there are probably groups near you. You can find a meeting list and lots more info on their website. OA suggests that you attend several different group meetings before deciding if it is for you, because you'll hear different people and ideas. Then if you want to try it, listen for someone who has what you want and talk to them after the meeting.
