Yay! I'm so glad you're back Carol Sue! And thank you. I hope the Slow Carb Diet keeps working for me. I'm feeling much stronger now. For those 3 months though, I just had the worst time trying to keep from overeating. I'm just thankful things feel right again! I also agree that slow loss is the type that sticks. It's wonderful that you have maintained your weight loss! My weight loss was rather quick I think, although not drastically so, so I'll have to remain vigilant. I have regained my weight loss and added even more lbs over and over for years, so I am happy that I didn't allow that to happen this time. You all really have made a difference for me! You keep me on track, even when I'm not, lol! Yum on the onion/cabbage/kale meal! That sounds so good!

PrairieQueen, I'm so glad you have the school nurse there to help you out in monitoring your BP! You are planning a business start-up, how exciting!!! You mentioned possibly starting it in two years. Is that when you retire from teaching? I couldn't agree more with Carol Sue and you that a balanced diet rather than a zero carb diet is the healthiest thing for our bodies. Extremes always create problems...sooner or later.

Sum, what diet plan are you following now? It is a specific plan or something you have tweaked and/or put together? Being on plan for 9 days in a row and losing 6 excess lbs is fantastic! I hope today you'll be able to report 10 days in a row!

Hi Rennie, can't wait for you to come back too!

Oh wow, I just went and weighed and I am down another 1.5 lbs! I thought yesterday's drop was the end of my after-Carb-Day water weight shed, but apparently I had more water weight to lose. I am trying to stay away from the Diet Dr. Pepper and to continue to drink water, which I'm sure is helping me shed the water lbs, but my head is throbbing today. I'm going to pop some prescription strength ibuprofen for my RA and I'm hoping it will help the headache too. If not, I might break down and drink a little bit of Diet Dr. Pepper. I don't want my headache to get worst. I hate migraines so much, the sheer pain, the nausea, the pressure on my eyeballs. Hopefully the ibuprofen will help!

Week 52:
5/1--180
5/2--181.5
5/3--180.5
5.4--179
5.5--177.5
5.6--
5/7--

Today's Meals:
Breakfast:

2 fried eggs
2 slices of bacon
Fage yogurt with Mio
Cutie
Mio water

Lunch:
Sliced pepperoni with melted mozzarella cheese on top
Mio water
A little Diet Dr. Pepper

Tea Time:

Dinner:
Large field greens salad with grilled buffalo chicken, egg, cheese and ranch dressing
Mio water

Today's Exercise:

I don't have an issue with diet cola the way a lot of others do. I like it, and don't plan on giving it up. It could be hurting me in some ways, such as bone loss. I'm aware there are problems. One day we were on our way to a restaurant and I took a single serve bottle of coke with me and drank it on the way. DH said "Why would you do that? If I drank that I wouldn't be able to eat my dinner." See, that's the whole idea for me. I drink it and it makes me feel full and I eat less. I order water with my meal when we eat out, but water doesn't give me that satisfaction that I get from the diet Coke. I think it's the carbonation that makes the difference. I think we all have things that we do that we know aren't the best.

I don't have a problem with the WOE other people follow. I understand why they do it. I am just one who likes vegetables and think they are important. Other people feel that way about grains, or fruit, or dairy. I don't. Everyone makes the choice that they like the best. I just don't like one being touted as being the only way. Even the medical field and nutritionist can't make up their mind.

Jacqui, that's one nice thing about cutting out the carbs....you get that whoosh.

PQ, I have a friend who just takes her BP meds and never monitors. That's risky I think. You are so lucky to be able to cut back. I look forward to that day, but right now they just keep increasing........

Nicely put, Carol Sue!

I always think I can drink Diet Dr. Pepper and it will be okay, but no. I really do think it increases my sweet tooth, which is already too strong, lol! Plus, I don't think it's good for my RA. Then again, it could be that the sweets I eat are what is bad for my RA. I'm not sure. I just know I seem to do better all the way around when I am not drinking it, which is unfortunate because there are very few things I consume that I like better than Diet Dr. Pepper! I don't want to give it up but really think I should, or at the very least, I should cut way back, and that's hard to do. I like it so much better than water. I always start out just drinking a little Diet Dr. Pepper and before I know it, it's all I'm drinking. If I could just find and keep a middle ground! Carol Sue, it sounds like you've found a good balance with your diet cola. If I could do that, I wouldn't be trying to give it up either! Right now, I think I'm going to try to keep it to no more than one can a day to keep migraines at bay, and hopefully I can wean it down from there. This cold turkey method is for the birds!

Some days I don't have any Diet Coke. Other days I have 1-2. When we go to the casino it's free, so I go hog wild with it. The only good thing about it is that I drink Caffeine Free. When I'm drinking it, I'm not eating. It does not increase my sweet tooth, but I have heard that's one reason for giving it up. Back when I smoked I knew it wasn't good for me, but I didn't stop until I was ready.

Evening ladies! Glad I have some company I'll try not to bore you too much.....

I'm like Jacqui with the Diet Coke and my mom is like Carol Sue. I looooove it and have for years. I still have one or two first thing in the morning on the weekends. I've switched to seltzer water and ice tea through the week. It's easy to resist at school because there are only Pepsi products in the lounge....yuck!

Bro is back in hospital while they run tests. His liver enzymes we're going wacko and his heart was pumping at 30% instead of 60%. Hopefully it's a med reaction that can be fixed with something different.

Break - sausage McMuffin
Lunch - beef quesadilla w/sour cream
Dinner - pan-fried chicken breast w/lemon mushroom cream sauce over angel hair pasta (one of my fave meals!)

Walking on the local trail Sat. morn w/neighbor (a mile away) and then hopefully gardening all day kiddies are visiting Sunday for Mothers Day (I'm cooking) and I have my last personal day Monday.

You never bore us, PrairieQueen! You keep us on our toes trying to figuring out what you're eating, how you're preparing it, and what you're planting! It sounds like you have a great weekend planned, and how nice that you are going to have Monday off too! I am SO sorry to hear that your brother is having complications. Like you, I hope it is just a reaction to his meds and can be reversed. He is in my prayers.

Carol Sue, yeah, I think the key to kicking any addiction (including overeating) is being mentally prepared to stop that behavior. I really love Diet Dr. Pepper and I really don't want to go through the migraines in order to stop it all at once, so I'm just not mentally prepared yet. I haven't convinced myself enough that it's worth it. I think it is so strange how we can know something is not good for us but still not be convinced that it's necessary we stop. It doesn't sound like you have any problem at all with diet cola though. I'm glad to hear you stopped smoking however! That really was important.
