Hi everyone,
I've been absent from the boards for a couple months now but I just wanted to update you on where I am diet-wise.
I finished my 1-year weight-loss project in mid-November. I didn't reach my goal of 125 lbs but I have been maintaining in the low 130s, which I am satisfied with for now. I tapered off my intensive food tracking and now don't track at all.
I have transitioned from doing the BFC specifically to eating low-sugar/low-carb generally without trying to stay under the 40g/5g per meal limits (although I think I almost always am). I have stopped eating grains and started eating more vegetables. I still don't typically eat fruit beyond avocados, tomatoes, and berries.
I am considering going Paleo and am currently reading The Paleo Solution. I think the BFC was a stepping stone for me. I like the low-sugar/low-carb aspects of the BFC but I didn't like that the sugar requirements kept me from eating lots of vegetables. It also seems to be a diet very focused on processed foods (like the recipes Jorge published) whereas I would like to eat virtually all whole/unprocessed foods.
To transition to Paleo I would have to give up grains and beans (pretty much already have), switch to grass-fed meat, and give up dairy. The latter two are big hurdles and I'm not sure if I'll fully accomplish them but I'd like to give it a shot.
Thanks for your company and best of luck with your journeys.

My dad started this 'slow carb diet' and he has lost so much weight but ALSO an appetite was lost for bad for you foods! It's crazy!

New here!
Hi Everybody,
I am just beginning the BFC. I ordered Jorge's book and should have it in a couple of days.
In the meantime, I've been reading all over the web about BFC to learn what I can. I've already set up my account in Lose It! and love that tool! I've also done some grocery shopping; coming from a very strict low-carb program, it was strange to be buying carb products - steel cut oats (very good!) and WASA crackers, for example - and even some Triscuits that will be OK with the prescribed serving size.
Currenly, I am heavier than I have ever been; had a couple of surgeries that took the stuffing out of me for a long time, and also dealing with some neck injuries that kept me sedentary after being a very active person (long ago now, but I loved working out!). While low carb has worked for me in the past, I like this plan so much better - it just makes sense to cut out the sugars! I thought Splenda was such a wonderful invention, only to learn that it was just as bad for me as sugar! I'm not going to have difficulty cutting out most of the sugars but I'm a bit afraid of adding carbs, since they were diet poison to me when I was on a high protein, low carb plan. I'd love for this plan to work for me as well as the low carb plan worked in the past.
I do have some sugar-free (Splenda) syrups in my pantry that I'd like to use up - DaVinci and Torani. I made steel cut oats for breakfast and added flax seed oil, almond milk, and 1 tablespoon of Torani caramel syrup. I didn't know how to count the Torani - I guessed and gave it the same value as 1 teaspoon of refined sugar. Does anyone here know the actual count to give to the Torani and DaVinci syrups? (I would really like to use them up instead of throwing them away, but will throw away if necessary.).
I've been reading the old 3 Fat Chicks thread on BFC and found an enormous amount of good material there; I'm looking forward to posting with you!
Jen

MUFAs
Something else I wanted to mention (and ask about) - before finding BFC, I read some other books addressing belly fat. One of them recommends that certain foods be eaten with each meal, to enhance belly fat burning even beyond the low-carb foods allowed on the plan. These are called MUFAs and they are: oils, olives, nuts and seeds, avocados, and dark chocolate. (Supposedly these foods also have many other nutritious benefits as well.)
As I begin this BFC plan, I am also incorporating one of these foods into each meal I eat (for instance, yesterday at breakfast I added 5 kalamata olives to my meal).
Has anyone else here tried combining the MUFA servings with this plan? All the MUFAs are allowed on BFC - the difference I'm exploring is to make sure I have one of those foods at EVERY meal I eat.

Fast Track?
The book I have ordered from Amazon is the original Belly Fat Cure book. I just read someplace else that the book mostly features "swaps" for fast food. Since I'm not much of a fast food eater, that may not be as useful to me as I'd hoped.
I'm reading about the Fast Track - does anyone have both these books? Is it worth getting the Fast Track?
Is the Fast Track the book that is recommended for women over 40? (I am).
Sigh. I wish there were some experienced BFC'ers here for me to talk to!

JenS-
By now you have your book and as you can see it is not about swapping out fast food but swapping out bad food for "good belly food"

60 lbs so far
I've been on the BFC diet since October 20th and have lost 60 lbs so far. Unfortunately I've been hitting major plateau's lately and they've been really aggrivating. Anybody else hitting these plateaus??? Seems the weight loss has really slowed down the past month even though I've picked up zumba.

Bravo!!!
Wow!60 pounds!! That is so awesome. Your accomplishments is outstanding and I must say . You are truely inspiring and I would love to read your weight loss journey. Do you have a blog?
Change up your exercise routine and add something different things like walking, weight lifting, etc. I have found when I reach a plateau, if I take a day off plan. I start losing again. Sometimes you must shock your body a bit. Don't go hog wild. But truely you have been so successful, would love to know how you did it. Keep up the great work.

I don't have a blog but I'll tell you a little about my story... I just had my 3rd baby in June and after I lost the baby weight I was 265 =( I was suffering with suspected baby blues so I went to the doc and she told me she wanted me to start walking 30 minutes everyday. So I did. I did it b/c of the "high" I'd feel from endorphins. Over the following 2 months I lost about 10 lbs. Then it dawned on me...hey I'm walking I might as well diet too and just take it to the next level. I was so sick of being fat and I sometimes just felt like taking the fat and cutting it off! Wouldn't that be nice if it were that simple! Anyways one day I went to the library and found the Belly Fat Cure book and read it and thought it might work. And then over the next week I lost like 5-6 lbs and it just kept coming off for the next couple of months. Some weeks I'd only loose 2 lbs. or something but then with winter I stopped walking as much but then after christmas I joined a zumba class and have been walking again, but can't figure out why I can't get past this plateau. Sometimes what happens I notice is that I'll drop 2 lbs and then it goes back up not as high but slightly and then it'll come back down...it's like 2 steps forward and 1 step back...so annoying! Anyways I do notice I'm way more constipated on this diet (sorry if tmi) so I'm guessing maybe I'm not drinking enough water and then I just read that taking a probiotic helps when your sluggish...so I'm gonna try those things and hopefully it'll work. I just recently hit one of my major weight loss goals and that was to break 200 and I did I actually saw a 197 on the scale, but it's since gone up teetering between 198 and 200. I haven't seen the 100's on my scale since I was in highschool!! Anyways I still have a way to go. I still have about 50 more lbs to go! Hopefully by my year mark I will accomplish this goal!

You will reach your goals and I want to lose abot 60 more pounds. I know that its not easy committing to a diet plan, but you have done just that. I need more committ and less excuses. So I think for me, one day at a time.
If I can make through a day without messing up, that will be a blessing in itself. I need someone who I can buddy up with to help give me that push when I don't want to be good. Its not easy going it alone. Never the less as you well know, its about choices and totalcommittment. Thanks!

Is anyone still posting here?? I started yesterday and I feel weird and kind of hungry. Not exactly light headed, but almost. Is that typical? Is my body just in shock?

your blood sugars might be adjusting. Your body was probably so used to getting a sugar high to keep you going and now it's coming a little bit slower b/c of the protein and lack of sugar. Your body now has to find it's fuel somewhere else so it's leaving you feeling a little weird. Make sure you're getting enough protein. Also if you're feeling hungry eat more fiber and drink lots of water. Nuts are good for making you feel full.

15/6 plan
Hey, my fiancee' and I just started Jorge's plan this morning, and I have a question that I haven't found answered in our reading. What if you have used all of your 6 servings of carbs, but still a lot grams of sugar left? For example, we have had breakfast and lunch and I have 4 carbs already but only 4 sugars. Will this diet work if I am never able to get all my sugars in? What foods can I eat that have sugars, but no carbs? Help!
