Weird (and painful) NSV

I had a goal to walk the long way about to my parents' house on Friday (right at 6 miles).

About 3.5 miles into my walk, I noticed that my arm flab was beginning to chaff!! It eventually became so painful that I called my mom, told her to give me 15 minutes and start driving to meet me. I wound up walking right at 5 miles.

I feel that this is a NSV, because I've lost enough weight that my upper arms actually "move" when I swing them back and forth, thus the chaffing. Weird, because, well, who likes flappy, swaying, chaff-y arm fat? :dizzy:

Still, though NSV! :carrot:

Hopefully, eventually my upper legs may start chaffing, too.

Congrats on your long walk!!

My upper legs chafe all the time I can't wear dresses or shorts. They do make this stuff called glide that runners use. But I read a thin coat of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) will keep chaffing at bay as well.

congrats on the 5 miles!!!

I'm not sure exactly what part of your arm you are talking about - would wearing a shirt with sleeves help?

for skirts, I wear light weight bike shorts underneath in the summer to avoid the chafing (in the winter I wear tights but prefer bare legs when I can!).

My very upper arms (imagine the very top part of your thighs--mine are so big that when I walk they don't "create friction" they just stay still.) My arms have been so big that when I walk & swing them, the very tops of them (the "bat-wing" parts), haven't been "rubbing" against anything--they've just been "sticking there."

I was wearing the thinnest, most broken in t-shirt that I own. Now when I swing my arms, though, the whole arm moves, which creates a friction, therefore the chaffing.

See, I told ya, ..... weird :p

ok, I think I understand a little more. I think that BodyGlide stuff that Sued mentioned would probably help - it's more comfortable and easier to use than vaseline. You can get it at Sports Authority and similar sporting goods shops, or specialty running stores.

you definitely want to be able to keep up that fantastic walking!!

Thanks for the advice! I need to visit a Sports Authority, anyway, to get fitted for some different kind of shoes. I love the ones I wear now (Saucony), but I have to walk a lot of gravel and these just don't feel, right.

I love walking all those miles & still feeling as though I could keep going (if not for the :bat: arms!).
