Default Is losing 10lbs in a month a realistic goal?

I need to lose 10lbs by July 25, I have a cardiologist appointment and have to go under for a procedure and Im just wondering if this is an achievable goal to have? For the past 2 weeks I have been eating right around 1500 calories a day and Im going to start walking in the evenings and get a gym membership hopefully this week. If anyone has any tips or suggestions PLEASE let me know. Its not a matter of wanting to lose the weight anymore but having to lose it.

Hi Heather, I think it is absolutely possible if you put your mind to it!!

Of course, be healthy about it though..... You should figure out how many calories you need to eat to lose, based on your weight, and then make sure you are working out each day to burn it off. Plus drinking lots of water helps too.

Best of luck to you, hopefully someone else will give you better advice, lol!

I think it depends on how much you currently weigh -- the heavier you are, the easier it is to realistically lose 10lb in a month. ALSO, I'd be careful not to do anything too crazy if you're having a cardiology procedure...
That said, my tricks are to really watch what I'm eating. Losing weight for me is 90% what I eat and 10% exercise. I try for lots of unprocessed foods, especially proteins, fruit and veggies, but I do still eat carbs. I just don't fill up on them. And I stopped drinking diet soda and starting drinking loads of water, around 50-60oz a day. I eat three meals and 2 snacks every day. Each thing is generally 3-4 hours apart. That's what works for me anyways, everyone's a bit different!

You can probably do it if you are consistent. Do it in a healthy way. I lost 12 lbs in about 4 weeks. I'm on a learn to run program where I run every other day with reps of walking and running. There are all kinds of exercise options so pick something that you enjoy but be prepared if you've been inactive in a long time - it is difficult but persist, it's worth it I cut back on portions. I eat more fresh produce and leaner cuts of meat. I try to eat a 'healthy' portion of carbs.

Good luck!

thank you all so much for the tips! Im really looking forward to losing the weight and doing it in a healthy way.

MsWannaBSim i would LOVE to be able to run lol. I use to play soccer when I was younger but the extra weight and health issue made it hard. Im thinking that if I maybe start walking/jogging about 30 minutes a day I can get back into running..does that sound like a good plan? Im in much need of help and tips if you cant tell lol.

Jen516 When I was last at the doctor I weighed 80kg which is about 176lbs and im 4'11" so I know I have alot to lose and hopefully I can see some results soon. Ive been cutting out lots of junk foods lately and trying to drink more water. I live in Louisiana and its 109 on an average day so water is my bff this summer lol. Im trying to stick to grilled chicken and veggies..my favorite is brocolli so I have that one hand and also the 100 calorie packs..not sure if those are big helps but it helps to keep me from eating a pint of ice cream.

mamato2boys I have a calorie tracker on my phone and it goes by weight and height and it says I should be eating around 1520 calories a day so I stick to that. I know lots of people that would rather turn to pills or just not eat to lose the weight but that isnt what I want or plan on doing.I plan on losing the 10lbs and keep losing! Ill be so excited to see the scale go down when I start working out lol.

10lb in a month would mean roughly 1100 calorie deficit. If you're eating 1500, are you saying that you're burning 2600? I'm the same height as you, albeit lighter and thoroughly inactive, but that still sounds like a **** of a lot to me. I'd imagine that it's very hard to thrive on such a calorie deficit at our height, even with an active lifestyle. Best of luck, anyway.

I plan on being active by going to the gym at least 5 times a week and cutting out alot of the bad things in my diet. if you have any personal tips for me thatd be great since we are the same height id appreciate it very much

I think it should be doable but you have to really stay on plan. Also, try to avoid processed/white carbs - white bread and anything else made from white flour and sugars. Stick to whole foods - lean meats, fresh veggies and fruit and whole grains.

I think you can do it.

When I was younger I could lose 10 pounds in a month easily. Now I am over 55 and it does not come off like it used to. It just takes longer to see a difference now. But I managed to go from 144 to 136 in the June Challenge. I bet you can do it!

How's it going so far?

IMHO, it's unrealistic. All the experts say 1-2 pounds a week is healthy. I agree with the posts about the more you have to lose...the easier it is. AT FIRST anyway.

If you start restricting too badly, you may be prone to binge. That's just my opinion though.

Drinking water, I know, helps me a LOT!!!
