Didn't reach goal weight, but still a great success

  • Entered FS with a goal to lose weight so that the hospital would approve us for IVF treatment, and to be approved you have to have a BMI below 30. We've been trying to get pregnant for the past 3 years almost, without success, and in February we were promised a referal to a special hospital. In June we finally got an appointment to see a doctor on August 14 (=tomorrow)

During my detox in June/July (which I did for 13 days) I lost 10 pounds and I was convinced nothing could stop me. Actually I had already reached my short term goal of BMI below 30. Then I went on a holiday with my fiancee, we went camping and during those few weeks I gained 5 pounds

However, after returning home, I find myself not being able to lose those 5 or any of the other extra pounds I've gained over the years. I'm PREGNANT and it all happened in a perfect natural way!

Now I find myself looking for another healthy diet, this time with a focus on not gaining too much during the next 8 months. Suggestions are appreciated.

Had a purely selfish need to share this success story with someone beside my fiancee. We've decided to keep it a secret from the rest of the world for a few more weeks.

  • Hello, Nina!

I think the best source for information at this point would be your doctor. You don't want to gain more than necessary, but you do need to have proper nutrients for your growing baby. Vitamins such as folic acid are very important.

So see your doctor and/or a nutritionist or dietitian, and good luck to you!

  • oh congratulations! how wonderful for you and your fiancee! i agree your Dr. is going to be able to give you the best diet advice to make sure your little one grows well
  • Wow! What an amazing success! Me and DH have also been trying for about 3 years. Unfortunately we don't have the $$ for any of the more aggressive procedures. You have no idea how encouraging your NSV has been to me!
    Congratulations!!!!
As far as diet goes, why don't you check out the pregnancy forum? You'll find some good answers there.
  • Congratulations!!!
  • Wow~ That's great!
  • Wow, Congratulations!! That is a big success indeed!

  • YAY, congratulations, you are gonna have so much fun! But you really have to watch your diet when you are pregnant, I didnt gain any weight the first 3 months then at my 4th month check up I had gained 17 lbs in one month! lol, my doctor did a double take and didnt believe his eyes! I gained 60 pounds during pregnancy and I thought I had a pretty good diet (I was obviously wrong) , lol next time I get pregnant I am not eating any fat... lol I can try anyways! Good luck!!
  • Congratulations! You must be thrilled.

I know you don't want to gain too much but eat healthy foods for both you and the baby. Check with doc about supplements.
  • What a blessing! You needed to lose weight for the IVF, so you lost some, and it turns out you don't need to use IVF after all. A win-win! Here's to hoping for great health to you and your baby!
  • on the weight loss but even more so about becoming pregnant. That must be such wonderful news to you and your DH after 3 years of trying to conceive.
  • Congratulations!!
  • That is so exciting!! Isn't it fun to keep the secret in?? My husband is a frickin blabber... that day I show him the stick he calls the whole planet... it's cute though. anyway, I'm losing weight before we conceive another child, it's good motivation isn't it??? Best of luck to you and your family, you're so lucky!!!
