Default Can I eat ground bison (buffalo) while on MRC diet???

My food list mentions that buffalo is permitted, but it seems to have a lot higher fat content than chicken? Can you help me please? I really find buffalo meat so tasty! As the same time, I HATE chicken breast :-(

Yes, yes, yes. I, too, love bison and the ground is delicious. In our stores, it's about $6.00 a pound but I did find a place on Ebay that you can buy in frozen one or two pound bags for much less.
I use bison for anything I used to use ground beef for, taco salad, chili, etc. It is my understanding that bison is lower in fat than chicken breast??
Welcome to the group. Lots of helpful people here.

My center told me to use at least 93/7..the ground is 90/10. The steaks are unbelievable expensive - like $11/4oz and I live on the front range of Colorado where it's processed! I did cave the other day and use ground, but then squeezed and wiped all the grease out.

All I have been using so far is ground buffalo. I have been buying the meat from Whole Foods and they do not show if it is 90/10 or 97/3. If I am not allowed to use the ground meat, I will switch to the buffalo steaks. I do not care about the price at this point, being overweight has an emotional price that is higher than the money.

I checked with the butcher at Whole Foods. The ground bison and ground lamb are both 91/9. The ground veal is 94/6. Makes sense? I am having a ground veal burger for dinner tonite.

Honestly, I am a little surprised to see lamb as lean as buffalo and veal leaner than both. What are your thoughts on that? Can we have veal every night, or just twice a week?

I eat ground bison at least 5 days a week and have lost 70+ lbs, so I think you'll be ok with it

PinkTiara22,

This is very encouraging. You have done terrific. I admire your willpower. If you can do it, I can do it. I am very hopeful. I am also very happy that this will help me avoid this dry, tasteless, tough white chicken meat. You cannot imagine how much I hate chicken breast...

Thank you again!

I was eating a lot of ground buffalo meat as I made my quick drop of 65 lbs over a a 4 month period. My husband and I both love it.

Joy2Menu,

Congrats on the success. I cannot believe you have lost that much weight so quickly! I love buffalo meat, makes wonderful burgers. I put green onions and lots of spices including cumin, red pepper, salt and black pepper and grill the meat. This is my favorie!

Hatetheseatpants,

Would you please tell me how you make your black beans and salsa? I am sick of the melba toast. You are almost there, way to go!

Thanks! Yes, it was pretty incredible! And I have been living on that success for the past several months, but not lost any significant weight in a long time. And if I did, I put it back on.

And that is because I haven't followed the diet cause following half way isn't following it! DANG! So, all my fault! I got comfortable, I guess.

But as of today, I am following every rule in pre-condition mode and maybe by Christmas I can get down to the size I would like, which would a size 8. That would make me incredibly happy as I get ready to turn 58. So here goes!

Oh, as far as the ground Buffalo, sometimes I seasoned it up with the low-sodium taco seasoning (several companies make this), and that made for a nice change from time to time. Or, if I didn't have time to thaw it, I could just stick it in the skillet and fry it up (little olive oil here), and then add the seasoning and throw it on top of a salad. These burgers are really good too, just to spice them up on the outside with your favorites, just a tiny bit of olive oil and stick them in a low broiler setting for about 20-30 minutes. So good! Even my hubby loves this, so is good for us both!

I have read all these great posts about ground bison and want to try it. I live in Missouri and I don't think I've ever seen it at the grocery store. Where do you buy it at? Thanks!

I get them at the grocery, pre-packaged. We have them at Pay-Less (Kroger) and Marsh. Also have seen them in the health food stores.

Again, they are pre-packaged and likely will be close to the deli section (in some stores), or the meat section.

I understand that some Wal-Mart stores have them, but not the ones here in Lafayette, IN.
