OK.....I agree that the body fat should be a guideline, but read their explanation to me above and they really do have our best interest in heart. I know that you do a lot of cardio, but do you do any resistance training???? With all your cardio you should be removing fat, but maybe you need to try to build some muscle with training to help that number out. Also, have you ever tried chromium picolinate??? It is supposed to help build muscle tissue and help with sugar cravings. It isn't very expensive and may be something you would like to research.

Yes, Jewlie I do resistance training as well as biking. I take a class at the gym or work out at our gym at home with weights. I started taking the chromium picolinate when I joined MRC. I bought it from them and take one 200 mg pill once a day. The bottle doesn't have any instructions on it though. I really don't have any sweet cravings. Do you think I should take it more often?

Donuts suggested a product called Sea Thin from GNC which is a thermogenic that sounds like I would benefit from it. I'm going to pick some up next time I am there. I hope it has directions on the bottle as to doseage.

"Oh and by the way.....when I went to WI today I was down another 4.8 lbs. since Wednesday!!!"

I can't believe you didn't start with that sentence in your post...you must be ecstatic. A huge CONGRATULATIONS go out to you! That is fantastic.

I think you can have 2 pills/day of Chromium Picolinate. That is what they told me, but you should ask. When you work out at home; make sure that you start with the biggest muscle and do enough weight that you really feel it and then go to the smaller muscles. Really focus on form and you should not hurt the next day but you should be sore. This will make sure that you get the most from your workout. Maxing your HNS will give you extra protein for building muscle so if you are not getting your max in - try it.

I'm not sure I'm the best to ask, but exercise really interests me. I haven't had the best of luck getting my body fat% down. I think it just takes time. Time to build muscle and time to burn off the layer of fat that we are all battling. Your doing really well.

Boomer1,

Welcome back. I've been on this forum for just over a month and have found the advice and support incredible. It is great to have a whole bunch of online friends to celebrate the successes with you.

Congrats to all the big losers! You all are amazing! I'm still doing well MOSTLY OP. We went out for my in-laws anniversary tonight and went to a Mexican restaurant. I did have a few chips and salsa, but I had no drinks and grilled chicken and veggies for my meal. I had a few bites of the girls' chicken tenders, but overall I'm happy with my day. I did take the fat/carb blockers b/c I knew my meal wouldn't be OP. TOM is finally here so I'm not holding out big hopes for Monday's WI, but maybe by Thursday I'll be good. I'd like to sign the 25 lb board soon, but I'm not sure our center has one.

Have a great Sunday everyone.

I'm actually doing this program for the 2nd time. I did it the first time in 2003-2004 and got to my goal weight at the time of 168, but didn't go through with maintenance. Later in 2004, I attempted to quit smoking and gained 40 lbs in the first few months. Subsequent quits over the next few years resulted in getting my weight up to 251.

I've managed to finally quit the cigarettes this year and now that I feel comfortable with my quit, I'm focusing on my weight. I lost some on my own and WI at 238.8 on Monday when I resigned. I went to my nutrition class last night and lost to 235.6 on the pre-conditioning diet. Day 1 has gone well so far and it's exciting to be back on program. Especially when I know that this program really works if you dedicate yourself to doing it correctly. I'm determined to go through maintenance this time (they actually gave me my maintenance time from the first time because I never used it which was really nice). I'm so excited about getting the weight off and being healthy again.

I am really excited about finding this board. It's so much easier to have a group to support you along the way. I'm going to go back and read through some old posts to see what recipes I can get from you guys.

Your going to love it here. Ask all your questions....someone will know!!! Everyone is amazing. Congrats on kicking the smoking now you are ready to get back into the battle of the bulge. Just as the rest of us are!

I lost 125 pounds doing Body for Life over 5 years ago only to regain it all back plus some. The Body for Life plan allows you to have whatever you want to eat one day a week. There is a lot of good logic behind this theory. Your body does not go into starvation mode. You don't feel deprived. I would be 100% on plan for the 6 days, because I knew I could wait for my "free day". Beleive me when I tell you I ate whatever I wanted on my free day. It really seemed to work for me, but it took me twice as long to lose the same amount of weight compared to MRC.

I personally believe it's better to have an off plan day if that will help you stay on the weight loss wagon. It works for some people and not for others. It didn't work for me in the long run. I needed to get my body totally off refined sugar and fatty processed foods (i.e. DONUTS). By doing this, I don't crave the off plan foods similar to what Goal4life has posted. I also feel stronger in my resolve to maintain my weight. I think it was a lifestyle decision for me.

Whatever you decide for yourself, I will stand behind you. Like I said, it works for some people and not for others. Only you can judge if you are one of the people it works for. I don't think I'm superior just because I don't cheat. We are all different.

Like others have posted in the past, cheating can be a "slippery slop". So be careful.

Time will tell if not cheating has help me in the long run. I'll keep you all posted
Yesterday was my birthday and last night was my first and only planned "cheat". I am not confessing what I ate but only saying that my "once" turned out to be pretty good. I didn't go overboard and this morning I did not feel sick nor did the scale reflect my indescretion(s). My DH said that I didn't go that off. In fact, most people would look at it as a moderate meal. Today I am right back op and even went for a 30 mile bike ride. Went up the dam hill and didn't use my granny gear (more intensity and I am either getting stronger or lighter in the saddle).

So in summary this will only happen once a year... on my birthday.

Mrs. Phibes,

Happy belated birthday! Sounds like your choice to celebrate with a little "cheat" was well planned, including your bike ride today. You are getting really close to your goal and deserve the birthday celebration.

Boomer1: Today was my Day 1 as well so we are in it together! I have actually been shocked today by the amount of food when I weighed it...8 oz. is a lot of vegetables. I have not been hungry at all and it took me a while to finish all of my dinner!

I am slightly worried about exercise. I have always been very active, running outside or using the elliptical/weights at the gym almost every day. I also have a six-month-old energetic puppy and taking her for a 30+ minute walk every day is a MUST. My consultant suggested that I cut back to just the walking, especially for the first little bit. I have been doing only that for the last week or so but I am scared of losing muscle tone...

Hello everyone!! It's been a while and I know I haven't met alot of you...but I was here all the way back on "take 1" and then onward to where I lost about 90lbs...then suprise! I got pregnant. I've missed alot here I know and I've read a little to catch up with some of you that I remember and you're looking GREAT!! I'm so proud of you all.
I won't tell you how much I've gained in the first half of my pregnancy, but I will tell you that I haven't been stressing about it. I finally look pregnant and not just like I gained some of my weight back, but I know that I can lose what I gain, so i'm not worried about it. When I got pregnant, I put my plan on pause and I'll have 4 months of plan when I go back to the center. I'll do that eventually. I have a copy of their breastfeeding menu and I'll try to get close to that as soon as the baby is born.
Just an update for those who remember me...we are having a healthy pregnancy and have decided not to find out the gender of the baby. I'm getting kicked alot right now and I'm more than halfway through the pregnancy now! YAY! Pretty soon I'll have to figure out how Baby is coming out....and I think I'll miss it being "in"...its so easy to take care of right now
Just wanted to catch up with you all ... thanks ShineOn for checking up on me, I got your message today and thought I'd better check in with my friends here.
I will say that the pregnancy boards that I post on have a "plus-size mom" board and I avoid it because they obsess about the weight they gain and I can't handle that. Weight was never an issue I wanted to stress about. For me, even when on MRC, I stressed health and I've had excellent blood-pressure at each appointment and passed my inital glucose tolerance test (for gestational diabetes) and i'm sure I'll pass my next one that I'll take at the end of May. I've felt healthy, so weight is just a number
Keep going on your plans everyone! It works, it works, it works...just take a look at donuts if you don't believe (you're looking great Donuts!!). I'll try to pop in more often to update you all.

Glad to hear from you. I think we were getting worried. I didn't really "Know" you, but you had just posted about your pg when I started here.

I'm glad your pg is going so well. I had gestational diabetes with both pregnancies and only started one of the pgs very overweight, so it was more of a hereditary thing for me. Glad your BP is good. Keep up the healthy eating and I'm sure everything will be great.

I hope all goes well and keep us informed. Take care.

[quote=dkmd27;2170217][font="Comic Sans MS"][size="4"][color="Red"]Some of you know, the new people may not. I had both of my hips replaced last summer and while I recovered well initially I've developed problems with a quad muscle and adductor that have decided to stop working. So, in essence, I cannot lift my left leg from a sitting position. I have to drag it into the car after me, etc. I can go up stairs okay, they are in the process of trying to isolate what the issue is. I've been in Physical Therapy for two months now with minimal success. This has been very frustrating for me, as I love to walk and do lots of 5Ks in the spring and summer, and these are out of the question right now. I've been reading your posts about too much exercise and I'm very envious ... and if I could I'd be right there with you. The flip-side of that coin however is that I've still been able to lose over 50# without the exercise. But I KNOW that I need the exercise for my heart health and muscle toning. And also to increase the fat burning (my fat % is too high).[quote]

I am sorry to hear what you are going through! In time this shall all pass! Don't push yourself and allow your body the time that it needs to heal properly. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that the doctors find a resolve to your situation!

My story is similar! This is actually my third shot at it (they say third time is a charm)! My first, I was in the 230's and lost 65 lbs (was in the military and moved duty stations) and never completed any type of stabalization/maintenance. Assumed that I could do it on my own as long as I was active. I then had some medical issues and two major surgeries. Put all plus some back on! 2nd attempt, I actually tried to start back up on program while on a job in the area of the initial center I used - think that lasted about a month with all the travel I do! Now my husband and I joined together and I have found a happy medium while on the road for business! Started this time at 232! All has been going pretty good! Welcome back! This is a wonderful site and all here are very supportive and have some excellent advice/suggestions!
