Default Another New Guy!

Hello everyone! Thought I would join the forum and hopefully get some help and motivation, and eventually maybe help someone in the process. I'm currently at 324.6 lbs and am hoping to get down to 250 sometime this year. I don't really know what my ultimate goal weight should be so i'll just have to wait and see when I get there lol. I'm going to be counting my calories and trying to exercise at least 20 mins. a day for now. Thinking about 1500 calories a day to start with, not really sure what would be best. Well, thanks for reading and here's to a better us!

Hey LeonC, not sure how i'll feel on 1500 calories, gonna give it a try and see. I figure since i'm used to eating anything at anytime I want, ill have to adjust somewhat to restricting myself. That's a good ideal about cycling your calories, I may give a try also.

Just for kicks, I entered your info into a weight loss calculator and it shows:

to lose 75 lbs in 6 months---

Your goal is to lose 75 lb / 34 kg for 180 days.

To maintain your current weight, your safe daily calories intake is around 3365 calories

To reach your goal, you will need to consume 1895 calories daily.

I'd go with that 1985/day number if 1500 is too low (which it was for me when I tried a couple months back).

I'm 240-ish and am looking to lose 50-ish more. I try to eat close to 2000. I've been at it a month and am down 13 pounds. My maintenance level is closer to 2600, plus I work out six days a week. I try to maintain a 1000 calorie deficit per day. Welcome and good luck.

Default One week down!

Well it's been one whole week! I averaged 1434 calories per day and have lost 8.6 pounds. So far my hunger hasn't been too bad and my energy levels are fine for my current activities. I plan to add regualar exercise this week and possibly more calories. My first short term goal is to reach 295 which is my personal lowest in adulthood. To me it was a big accomplishment to stick with it a whole week. I havent had any soda which is a big deal for me (love RC), especially since I have diabetes. My blood sugar is actually lower now with no medicine then it was last week on meds.

Assuming you're a type II diabetic you can most likely "cure" your diabetes. Just stay focused on the goal.

Exercise does not have to become your life's passion to be effective. I would seriously just start with brisk walking. Make sure you stretch your hamstrings after. I wouldn't wait - just do it.

You're going to fly by your 295 goal!

Default 2 Weeks Down!

Well i've made it another week! Down 2.4 lbs. I was hoping for more but 11 lbs. is a good 2 week loss. I went up on my calories somewhat, averaged 1852 this week and I walked on the treadmill 5 days for 30 mins. each. This week im going to continue to exercise and keep my daily calories between 1800 and 2000.

Thats good progress, i probably averaged around 4 or 5 pounds a week loss on average until i got down lower and it became much more difficult.

I too kept my calorie intake around 1800- 2000 range worked fine for me, just don't eat much in the way of high calorie dense food, won't satisfy or fill you up, stick with foods that are at or below 100cals per 100 grams as a target, at least that was part of my plan other than the odd indulgence here or there.

Thats great goose, keep at it! Yeah, you should still lose with a 2000 cal a day diet --- 2000 calories can be a LOT of food depending on what your eating. 2000/day will be what I will consume on a daily basis after I reach the 190 goal. If you add in just 30 min a day of exercise, the weight will just melt off. This isn't nearly as hard once you get your mindset in the right place! Keep us updated

Edit: I see you are walking on the treadmill, me too-- it gives me time to listen to some new music and burn some calories at the same time!
