weird question about gum
So I was reading that sugar free gum counts as a snack (three pieces) which is great because I tend to chew gum after meals sometimes.. but if you don't swallow it, how can it count towards a snack? This may sound silly but forgive me because I am really curious about this!

I'm guessing the effect of the sugar alcohols that are swallowed as part of chewing the gum?
|
I wondered this too...but I guess you are still swallowing the juice and flavoring from the gum, and most sugar free gum has 1 carb...at lest that I've seen. I just assumed that's why...

So funny...I just logged on here and was about to ask the exact same question! I love gum. It will be hard to limit to three pieces. Especially as it usually helps me with overcome cravings.
|
Ah yes, you're both right! That makes sense. For me it'll be harder to sort of eat less of a snack (I've been eating the MF snacks which are so yummy) because I had a piece of gum.. just doesn't seem fair haha

I'll trade gum for peanut butter any day! But I'll admit sometimes I have a piece of gum AND peanut butter. I just make sure I'm still under 100 carbs. Not sure if that's OK lol, but I'm happy with my weight loss

Yeah I would probably do the same as I go further along, so I don't blame you!

Sounds BS to me. Chew as much as you like.

I'm a teacher and no 13 year old wants to smell my nasty Ketosis breath... My counselor basically told me not o worry about it as long as I'm not chewing a pack a day. I'm on day 48 of Medifast and am approaching 30 pounds lost, chewing gum (and not counting it as a snack) almost every one of those 48 days. |
Great, thank you all for the input!
