How to maintain weightloss from Medifast

Hello, my name is Cassandra.
Anyone lost weight with Medifast and can you tell me how to maintain weight loss after Medifast without staying on Medifast for life. I went on Medifast a year ago but had to come off due to finances and I think I had a little bit of lactose intolerance...needless to say I should have done the Maintenance phase but I did not! I gained my weight back because I did not change my mindset!
Do you think following something like food exchange or counting calories would work once I reach my goal weight?
