New and just starting Medifast

  • New here and starting Medifast tomorrow. A little scared about what to expect with this diet. My goal which is one that I may no attain is to lose 20 lbs in a month. I have about 50 lbs total to lose.
  • Welcome!

The first few days can be rough. Drink lots of water, then drink some more. It helps with the headache, dizziness, and even the hunger.

I will tell you that 20 pounds in a month is a little ambitious, especially at your starting weight. I started 100 pounds more than you, and I only lost 17 pounds the first month.

Take a look around and check out the tips and tricks, and good luck!
  • Thanks Riddy..I know I'm scoring high with 20 lbs. I will be happy with 15 lbs. I've been reading alot of the posts on here and getting some tips..
  • Congratulations on starting I just started MF a month ago today and in that month, I've lost 12 lbs and 4 inches. Yeah, I would have loved to lose more than that, but I'm still thrilled!

Good luck to you and let us know how you do!
  • I started MF 5days ago and as of yesterday am 4lbs lighter! That was with clothes on after I ate at the doctor's office. So exciting! The first couple days were difficult but then your body should get used to it. I am rarely hungry anymore.
  • So far I'm sticking to it except for Thursday since I had a Work Function. But I weighed in on Friday not expecting to lose anything in and I was 4 1/2 lbs lighter.. Can that be?? since I had a glass of wine the night before and ate somewhat decent..
  • Wine is reasonably low carb and calorie compared to other alcoholic beverages. Especially red which has great antioxidants in it. So if you're going to drink, a small glass of wine is probably the way to go.
  • I've found that cheating usually doesn't show up on the scale til the second morning after. It is entirely possible to have lost 4 pounds already - see the sticky about ketosis at the top of this page. You lose the most weight the first 2 weeks because of it.

If you want to maximize your weight loss, I would stay off alcohol for at least the first month. Besides all the empty calories, the sugar can knock you out of fat burning, and you'll have to go through the "first days" feeling again. Even if it doesn't take you out of fat burning, your body will use the alcohol for energy before your fat.

I know it's a lot to completely change your eating and take a break from alcohol too, but that is how to set yourself up for the most success.

    You can do it!
  • Thanks Riddy... I plan on no more wine. I feel like this diet is easy and I'm not hungry at all. I also can't seem to get all 5 meals in through out the day.
  • I have timers. One at 6am, 9am, noon, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm. I don't really want to eat that late but IDK how else to get all 6 meals in. Unless I made a couple 2hrs apart instead.
  • Medifast is great. I have one strong bit of advice, and that is to have a backup diet. I lost and then gained back all of my weight after Medifast. So right now, start researching and planning so that when it is time to quiet MF, you will know what to do.

Good luck and hope to be seeing less of you!
  • I wish I could say I'm not hungry. It's odd, on my days off I have no trouble going 3 hours between meals, but at work I'm watching the clock starting about 1 1/2 hours after my last meal. I'm sure it's something mental, but I haven't figured out how to make it better. Usually I get to 2 hours and then try to wait just a little longer, but on the days I go in at 7:30 and lunch is at 1:30 I really have to wait the 3 hours. 11 months in, and I'm still trying to figure me out.

    Here's to working it out!
