Default Preparation Ideas...

Hey all,

Tried the Medifast hot chocolate this morning, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how good it tastes, BUT there are a lot of chunks of undissolved powder left in it that no amount of stirring will fix, and they taste absolutely awful.

Anyone have ideas on how to prepare this another way (I followed the directions but it still came out like this)? There are so few Medifast meals that I really like the taste of, I hate to rule this one out on account of this!

Also, anyone had luck with making the pancakes not turn into a runny mess in the pan? lol

Try using the shaker. Don't cook in it, as it isn't safe for the microwave, but it does a decent job of lump-killing. And, for me, the pancake batter is thin, and you get one decent size pancake, but they puff up and cook really decently.

Do NOT shake hot liquids in the shaker! It will pop open and you'll be covered with hot chocolate!

I put the powder into the mug and add about 1/3 of the 8 ounces of cold water. Then I use a fork and/or a spoon to stir slowly, making sure the powder gets wet thoroughly and that I've mashed up any lumps. Then I add the rest of the 8 ounces of water and stir it again. Don't be in a hurry is the main thing. Then I put the mug in the microwave and heat it.

That's about the best you can do. Works well with the cappuccino or any of the hot drinks.

As for the pancakes, my friends on Medifast have found that using plain seltzer water or club soda instead of water make them come out more fluffy. They also don't try to cook three little pancakes--just one big one.

Oh, yeah. Don't shake it hot! Sorry if I wasn't clear on using the shaker to mix and a microwave safe container to cook it in. :P

I make my hot chocolate with hot tap water. I use a small whisk, and add the water slowly. Then I nuke it for just 1 minute. Anything I'm eating hot, I mix with hot tap water (except choc chip pancakes - the chips will melt).

For the pancakes, I use a little less liquid than it calls for. If you can let it sit for a few minutes before you cook it, it will thicken up some. I make 1 big pancake in a 10-inch frying pan, and I put a little bit of butter in the pan.

Good luck!

I have tips for almost all the Medifast foods on this page: Medifast Tips & Recipes. I learned a lot of them over time, so maybe they will help you a bit!

Make sure when doing the pancakes, you dont stir it at all. You want small chunks in it so that its a batter like feel. And, like Riddy mentioned, a little less water is better. I can usually get about 6 half dollar size pancakes out of one pack and i use the no calorie no carb syrup and dip them. Having 6 little ones makes me feel like i have a bunch to eat unlike one big one.

Hope this helps!
