Tomorrow, May 28th is the day I start MF.
I have 4 weeks of food, lean and green menus, and water water water everywhere.
The great thing about this plan so far is the structure. I love that it doesn't take much thought.
I am doing it 100% ...no substitutes .
I do have one question I have not been able to find the answer for........
V8 is allowed! Just make sure the type you pick up has no/very little added sugar. I found a lot of the tomato/vegetable juices at the market had a ton of sugar, grr. I'm going to one of the centers and the counselors actually suggested making the chili with V8 instead of water.
V8 is sort of allowed. During maintenance or as a snack (low-sodium version.) During the diet it's not recommended. The response I saw on the official MF dietician site was:
"V8 and other vegetable juice-type products are not recommended for use while following the 5&1 meal plan, but can be re-introduced into the meal plan during the Transition & Maintenance phases of the program (although "eating" your vegetables rather than drinking them is always encouraged because of the additional fiber and satiety they provide when consumed in their "solid" form.)
If necessary though, you could, on occassion choose a low sodium V-8 as an Optional Snack."
just as well. I decided to avoid it. It's a favorite of mine and something I look forward to drinking when I am in transition. In other words...The craving is gone.
Hmm, interesting. Thanks for that info! I'm going to ask my counselor about it during my meeting next week as she was the one who recommended that in the first place...Yikes!

Is V8 allowed? Or is the sodium too high?
I'm not 100% sure, but if you choose the low sodium version of V8, you should be fine. Read Dr. A's Habits of Health book (Amazon - $30) for awesome lists of approved foods / drinks and also motivational / emotional advice and encouragement. That book is amazing!!! Good luck 2 u!!!!
