Unless they've drastically changed their program in the last few years, the LA Weight Loss program is not an air and water only diet. It is (or at least was) a fairly standard weight loss exchange plan. The exchanges themselves are very similar, in most cases essentially identical to the current standard exchange plan created by the American Dietetics Association and the American Diabetes Association (and not much different than the first exchange plan the groups created somewhere around 1950).

Exchange plans are normally my plan-of-choice, and I survive just fine on them.

Exchange plans are easiest to do when you eat mostly whole food, as figuring out the exchange values for processed foods can be a bit tricky (but not impossible).
