Default VERY dry lips after just one week low carb.

Hi, I just realised I had posted my question into the general forum by mistake.
I have been on a low carb diet for one week and my lips have totally dried out. Am I doing something wrong? I just noticed that I'm supposed to be taking a daily vitamin supplement, and drinking more water. Could that be the cause?

For some reason mine had also. Seems they're getting better now and I've now been doing low-carb for a month. So try some blistex or lip moisterizer (i had used carmex and was told that would dry my lips out even more) for the time being

Thanks Brenda, I have been using Lipsol, but it hasn't helped much. In the UK forum they suggested it might be the tea, and that I should drink plenty of water. I only started drinking tea this week as I unfortunately take sugar in my coffee. I'll see how I get on!
Every success with your plan!

Do you not drink any water? You really should try and drink more of that as well

Water, water and more water ...and a little chap stick wont hurt.
This is week two (of my second time around). If you don't drink enough water your skin will get a little flaky and your nails will chip and worse of all if your carbs are really low there's slight bad breath. and of course dry lips. Tea unless it's decafe will make it worse. It tends to dehydrate you. I keep a 32oz bottle on my desk and keep it filled. It takes me from 8:15 AM to 3 PM to finish 2 bottles (8 glasses)and it's a chore but worth it I think.

Ive noticed my lips are dry too. It could be due to the colder weather as well. This is my third week on atkins. It is really hard for me to drink 8 glasses of water a day....

It gets easier if you give yourself no other options.

Also, I've found that if I keep an open water bottle near me all the time, I drink a lot more. Something about not having to take the lid off.... How lazy am I?

I find it easier (and faster) to drink my water out of a glass vs a bottle. If I'm not home I carry my bottle with me of course. But at home I make sure to fill the glass up (and usually drink it all at once).

At Work I take a 32 ounce spring water bottle. I put about 2 inches of water in the bottom then freeze it (in the refrige at work) then when I come into work in the morning I fill it up and put it on my desk ....I drink it all morning and at lunch time I refill it ....that gives me my 8 glasses without thinking about it .... before Atkins I never drank water ....What water when I could have a soda ...no way

Hi ladies, Linda my niece sells Mary Kay and they have a product called Satin Lips, You apply it and exfoliate, then apply this silky wonderful balm afterwards. I am not trying to push a product , but it is the best thing I have ever tried for dry lips.
The early stages of Low Carb does do odd things as our bodies adjust to the initial shock of less sugars in the body. When I was on Induction, it was the perspiring andfatigue. Hang in , and also remember its winter, those lips can get better as the weather warms, and we get out of the inside forced heat sources.

OH!!!! That's the first time I had heard someone admit that they perspired while on induction!!!! I thought it was just me !!!! Glad to hear it's not. Hopefully it goes away as I really dislike being a stinky person! I've had to start carrying deoderant/anti-persperant around just to re-apply. I'm glad it's not summer out otherwise there'd be NO hope!!!!! People would definitely avoid me. lol

If it is...I've started it early!!! I'm still in my 30's (mid-30's anyway) and though I know it's possible to have early menopause...unless my TOM is TOTALLY going away I can do w/out the hot flashes and mood swings! lol. If I'm gonna have the drawbacks I at least want ONE perk of menopause!! lol

Good Afternoon,
I'm 53 and there are NO perks for this sh** !!!!!
The first week of induction can be rough but in the long run it's worth it. I just wish I'd stop messing up and having to start over again ...it's a pain.
