Default Carb Counts of Foods

I started to work on a list of foods commonly eaten and their counts, and it got too long really fast! Eggs, meat, fish, and cheese was easy, then it got out of control!

I think the way to find out what you can eat is to read one of the Low Carb plans to decide how many carbs you want to eat. All of the books include lists of basic food counts, and some are given by portion size.

Protein Power gives 5g, 10g, 15g, etc portions of foods. CALP just lists the LC(free)foods. So does Atkins. The usual: eggs, cheeses, meat, fish, fats, non-starchy vegetables. The Zone lists foods by Glycemic Index.

Atkins sells a pocket size book of carb counts of foods. It's very helpful and you can keep it in your purse.

Corine Netzer has the most comprehensive book listing carb counts of just about anything you can think of! I use it alot.

There are also links to on-line food counters- I don't use them, maybe others will post some of them on this thread? Ruthxxx? Nasus?

www.lowcarbeating.com has a carb counter.

hope this helps!
