Hi,
Well I wrote out another note and little Boots walked across my keyboard and deleted it.

I have surgery scheduled on Monday, so I have been running around like a madwoman again, trying to get everything ready. I am not looking forward to shopping again, but I still have lots of food from the last trip.

Aleka, my mom has been gone for around 12 years and those things happened earlier than that. It was terrible, and also, I couldn't get anyone to listen to me or to do anything about the abuse. I moved her to 3 nursing homes, which is difficult, since they have waiting lists. I took care of them in their home for about 3 years prior to this, but after mom broke her hip, I couldn't take care of her at home any more. I lived over an hour away, so driving back and forth everyday was hard, plus I was working full time and single with 2 little kids. Taking care of older parents can be heartbreaking.

The medicine I was talking about for motion sickness is Dramamine, I realized that last night, oh .

Too bad about the Ruby T's cauliflower. The diet that the OJ industry is thinking of suing is South Beach, because they said in their book that it's better to eat fruit than drink juice. How stupid.
I think a lot of big manufacturers are getting pretty scared and losing profits now. All the bread and flour related people are starting to see declines in profit as is the sugar industry, potatoes, corn, etc. I'm sure it's not a huge drop, but significant enough that they are starting to take this thing seriously. I bet things will get even more heated before this is over.

I have to go exercise and then get my day going, have a good one, Nikki

Goodmorning Everyone: A new study was just released up here by the Heart and Stroke foundation yesterday and obesity related problems has replaced smoking related causes as the #1 killer of Canadians! It was the lead in story onall news programs. The researcher I head interviewed blames the packaged food industry and the addatives and labeling laws. It was very interesting, for example the leading blueberry waffles has no blueberrires inthe package, Betty Crocker bacon and chives scalloped potatoes has no bacon in it, Jello"s white chocolate pudding mix has no coco beans in it. All using some chemical fat subitute, and all legal. So I guess there will be changes because of the cost of health care. God Nikki! how awful for you and your family not to mention your poor mother. We will be a lot more dilligent from now on. I hate to be suspicious of people, I want to believe the best of people. For now we will stagger our visits. My daughter can go at night etc. and I think as soon as my brother can free up his equipement ( I want sound as well) we will put a camera in for a couple of weeks. Glad the cats are all getting along now. I also forgot about Dramamine also called gravol. It is also good for sleeping when in a strange bed. Well I guess I'll get my day going also. Hope everyone has a great day. Talk later.

Hi ladies

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday. A friend of mine is coming to have lunch at my house today, but it won't be a diet meal.

lynn, I heard on the news a few weeks ago that every country is concerned with obesity and they want all the countries ban together and sign in laws to fight it. But, our president won't go along with them. I agree that things started going down hill with all the low/no fat craze. People thought just because it said low fat they could eat all they wanted...me included. I think the fast food industry has a lot to do with obesity, where they supersize everything. I have heard rumors that they want to tax junk foods.

nikki, I wasn't sure which diet the OJ industry was suing. I heard them mention Atkins & South Beach, and couldn't remember if it was either one or both. It really is stupid because people are still eating oranges! I've been hearing for years that it's better to eat an orange instead of drinking orange juice. You really had an awful time with the nursing homes. When my dad passed away 3 yrs. go, he was in the Elder Care section of the hospital, and he was treated very well. His Dr. was going to release him in my care, but he was at the point where I would have to watch him 24/7. But, he died before any arrangements had to be made. I can relate to traveling a long distance to visit your mother. The hospital my dad was in was about a 40 min. drive, one way, from my house. I'd go every day, get there late morning and wouldn't get home until 5:30-6:00 at night. That was tough, but I couldn't imagine doing it being a single mom, and holding down a job.

ANNE & Sha, hope you both are doing ok.

Have a great day.

Good Morning,

I've returned to eating more fresh, unprocessed foods. I had bought a bunch of that stuff when I thought I was having surgery last time and thought it would be convienent. It turned out, it just made me gain weight. So now, I've cut out sugar alcohols, most of the processed foods and the low carb bread with P&B. I'll still have that a few times a week, but I was eating it everyday and that was too much. Anyway, I've now seen the scales start to move back the other way, so that must be the right thing to do for me.

Aleka, I'm glad your mom was well cared for. I was talking with a woman from a small town once. She said at their nursing home, the people are well cared for, because everyone knows everyone and so it was just like taking care of your neighbor. That is the right attitude to have. I always took care of my patients like I would like my family cared for.

I took Boots over to be neutered this morning. I hate doing that, but those tom cats aren't too easy to live with if you don't. It was a long night for me, because I had to remove the cat food and water at 8pm. Stripe started to raise **** at 3am and kept it up til he was fed at 8am after I took Boots to the vet. He is spoiled rotten.

Hi, Anne, Lynn and Sha.

Well, got to get busy. Lots of things to do again before Monday. Have a good day, Nikki

Good Evening All:
Sorry I couldn't post yesterday but I had a big fight with I won't
bore you with the details but I was knocked flat after that event...........
I'd like to kick her in the #@@*# Stress can knock you out like nothing else
can!

I was reading with great saddness your posting on elders abuse. I worry about when my autistic son David gets older. I know the day will come when my husband and I are elderly and we will have to place David in a group home. I can't even think about it. It be be unreasonable of us not to have this matter taken care of before our deaths. Life is so sad. I know our other boys will be married by then and have families and it wouldn't be fair to expect them to have David move in with them

Nikki, is your surgery day surgery or will you have to stay in hospital?

Aleka, I hope you had a lovely visit with your friend and a delicious lunch.
You have to splurge once in a while!!!

Hi Lynn are you enjoying our break from the deep freeze!!!

Hi Sha, I hope all is going well with you!!

Talk to you all later.
Anne

Hi Everyone: Before I forget Dr. Atkin's widow will be on Larry King Live on monday. That will be interesting, the news people are like a dog with a bone about the fact Dr. a. was "obese" at death. There must be a lot of marketing executives out there very up tight. Anne with the baby boomer population getting involved with the nursing home problems there will be laws and rules in place that will make nursing homes one of the safest places to be. Aleka hope you had a good day yesterday, I am looking forward to getting back to Mississauga at the end of the month and going to lunch with friends. Nikki hope all is going well with you and all is falling into place with your preparations for surgury. Will be back later.

Hi,
Anne, I agree with Lynn, things are improving all the time. It's important to shop around for the place that you feel the most comfortable with and then make your wishes known to your children, just in case. I know you want the best for David. If I'd had more time, I would have found somewhere better. Here, it's very limited and there are long wait lists.
Sorry to hear about your go around with Yes, that adrenal pump through your system when something like that happens, then your wiped out later. Hope things are going better for you today.

Aleka, how'd your lunch go? We're going to the casino tonight and then to a steak house that says they have the best steaks in Iowa. They are really good steaks. This is our celebration of our anniversary (#6) and Valentines day, just a day early. I have to take DD to work and pick her up tomorrow, so we won't be able to leave town then. We do plan on going out tomorrow night here in town for supper to our favorite Mexican restaurant, hope I can stay OP there, their food is so delicious, it's hard to resist

Lynn, I won't be able to watch Mrs Atkins, because of my surgery. I saw her on the Today show a few weeks ago and she had to answer all the same questions they are bringing up again now. She is a real lady and I feel sorry for her. She should be allowed to grieve for her husband and not have to defend his work.

Hi Sha, hope things are still going well for you. Is your weather warming up? We are having a much warmer day here and they say by the end of next week, it will be in the 40's. Oh, I can't wait for that!

Got to run, did all my shopping this morning. Now I plan on spending the rest of my time making casseroles and soups for the freezer so DH won't have to cook, just heat.

Have a good one, Nikki

Angry Happy Valentines Day!!!

Do you all have any special plans for today? Yesterday it was such a gorgeous day here that DH & I drove to the seacoast and had lunch at a seafood rest. that we hadn't been to in years. We had such a good day.

ANNE, sorry about your fight with It must have been very hard on you. How were things with her the next day? That really is a tough decision to make about David. I know you and your DH will make the right decision that will be best for him and your other sons.

nikki, our lunch the other day went very well. Our supermarket makes up these unbreaded stuffed chicken breasts which are delicious. I bought a couple of those and had veggies and rice (my girlfriend loves rice), and of course just had to have dessert, and it was not sugar-free. How was the Mexican Restaurant? I love Mexican food. If I don't get to post tomorrow, good luck with your surgery on Monday, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

lynn, in our USA Today papers there has been a lot of articles about the new Atkins controversy. I read somewhere that these Drs. who broke the story obtained Dr. Atkins medical records illegally. I think these Drs. who are deathly opposed to the Atkins Diet saw a good opportunity to start rumors. There were photos taken not long before he passed away and he was far from obese. It will be interesting to see what Mrs. Atkins has to say. But, unfortunately, Larry King is on too late for me. Maybe I can tape it.

Sha, hope everything is going well with you.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Happy Valentines Day everyone
We went to the casino last night, expecting to spend a few hours there, but we were out of money in 15 min. Lucky in love I guess The steak house we planned on going to hadn't opened yet, so we drove back home and on the way, decided to stop in another town for supper at a Mexican restaurant that we have always liked. It was gone, but there was a new Mexican restaurant in it's place. DH wanted a pitcher of Margarita's, so we had that. It was real sweet, but I managed to drink my share The food was good, not the same as the last place that was there. It was still delicious, but far from low carb.
DH bought 2 bottles of Austi Spumanti for our Anniversary today. He knew I didn't want any chocolates and is proud of himself for not buying me those, but the Austi is so sweet, I'm sure it's full of sugar too. I didn't say anything except for thank you. Next year, I'll have to specifically ask for a couple of lobster tails instead

Aleka, I am so jealous. I've never eaten fresh seafood. Your trip to the coast and restaurant sounds romantic and very delicious. Thanks for the well wishes for Monday. I'm sure everything will go fine. It may be a while before I get back on the pc after tomorrow. Who knows, it may not be too. I'm sure looking forward to getting this stuff out of me though. Every time I take a step, I say ouch.

Hey, I got my high speed internet a couple of days ago. It sure makes a big difference. I can't believe how much faster the pages load and I can read my email in a matter of minutes not 1/2 an hour. It's also great that we can use the phone when I'm on the computer. The only problem with that is, the phone is ringing all the time now and before, it was just silence. I bought a phone to have next to my computer and it came with an additional handset that doesn't need a phone jack so I put that one next to my stove.

Better run, have a good one, Nikki

Happy Anniversary Nikki: Hope you have a good day! We havn't got anything planned for today. The restaurants here put on special menu's on Valentines's Day. Even your favorite restaurant is over booked over priced and the service and food isn't as good as on a normal day. I try to make something special, today is a special pork dish my DH loves and a few glasses of wine. I am off my diet for the day, I am still going to chart my calories just to see how bad I am. I have already had a piece of toast and it was delicious! I have never had Mexican food. There are not a lot of good Mexican restaurants here. I'm sure there are a lot in Toronto but unless we go down for a show or Dr's app't we don't go into the city. Well off to exercise will talk to you tomorrow.

Happy Valentines Day Ladies:
Nikki, happy anniversary!!I hope you and your DH enjoy many more
years together

We ordered Chinese food for the group of us and I am so full and bloated
I feel I could explode I really enjoyed it though.

Aleka, things were better the next day. came down and told the
others that I was in charge of the cash office and all its functions and the
others would be taking direction from me. It helped a bit to get this
recognition of of . I have nearly been 30 years at St.Mikes now.
I started working there when I was a kid

Lynn I saw Dr. Atkins interviewed just prior to this death. He was hardly
obese. People in the media will do anything to slam a person especially
once they have passed away. We have all seen this a million times over.
I will watch the interview with Mrs. Atkins on Monday to see what she
says about all this B.S. Wasn't it freezing today!!!!!!

Talk to you all on Sunday. Joan Rivers is on shopping channel so I am
going to get myself a pair of earings

Anne.
