Bed Sheets--soft that DON'T pill?
 

This is more of a "feeling great" post, I guess, than a "looking good" one ;)

My sheets, which I've had on my bed now for about 4 years :o, have GOT to go!! I recently bought a new set at Wal-Mart (supposedly 300 TC Egyption Cotton) and they are so ROUGH I can't get to sleep on them.

Do any of you have any favorite sheets that stay soft and don't pill? I'd love to get some like the ones I've had forever (I bought two sets then and have been alternating them out), but the tag on the inside is so worn I can't tell what kind they are anymore!!

I'm roughly 4 lbs. away from a 25 lb. loss and I'd like to use this as a motivation/reward!

I love the Jersey Knit Sheet sets. It's like sleeping in a t shirt. They're inexpensive and so nice.

Not sure if there is a khols near you but I bought some 600 thread count sheets and have been using them for 3 years, they are wonderful it is the only set I have for when the weather is not cold, and when it is cold below
0c I bought some flannel ones from Shopko and have had them for 3 years also and they have held up great too!

I don't use the jersey type personally because I toss and turn and they're so stretchy I always seem to pull them off my mattress. My husband's the same way which doesn't help.

Most high quality, high thread count sheets will be nice and soft without pilling. I got a 650 thread count set of sheets that has held up very nicely from Walmart for around $50 or so. I've never seen a single pill.

Avoid "sateen" kinds-- those pill within a night or two of sleeping on them. I usually buy my sheets from tj maxx, and I just look for a high TC all cotton that feels nice when I touch them, again, avoiding sateen. I've been through three different sateen sets, all cotton and all high TC, and they've all worn out within a few sheet changes. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but after the third set, I've changed my mind. My other sheets are great.

JC Penney has several brands of quality sheets in the 600 thread count range that are nicely priced when on sale, (almost always) and hold up well wash after wash, and never pill for me. The Chris Madden collection at JCP is my personal favorite. Love to sleep... zzzzzzzzz

I'm a sheet "snob" lol. After purchasing at TJMaxx, 600 count Egyptian Cotton sheets several years ago, I can't handle anything else. I don't like flannel, I get too warm and like someone mentioned the jersey knits stretch if you toss and turn alot. I really, really like Egyptian cotton the best, but have to be above 500 count and if you get them on sale or at TJMaxx they don't cost any more than "regular-priced" lower thread counts. Good Luck, once you've had great sheets, it is impossible to go back. lol. :)

I think it's all in the thread count. 600 count seems to stay soft forever.

I think that's my problem--my "good" sheets that I've had for years came from Wal-Mart, too, but now they ONLY sell one brand (or at least at my Wally), so I got them thinking they'd be close to like the ones I had before----WRONG!!!

I will definately be looking into all of the above suggestions! Now, it seems most places have the little sample blocks of sheet hanging out to "test," so I should be able to sleep again soon!

I just went on-line shopping & bought my sheets! Two sets of full and two sets of queen in different brands/TC's/etc. (I want to try several)

I am BLOWN AWAY at how much the cost of sheets (Good) is! For those four sets, I wound up spending approximately $300!!!!!

Sheets are so expensive... Try Overstock.com next time, they have a lot of clearance. The good thing is that those sheets you bought will probably last awhile! :)

I don't like the knit ones, the fitted bottom sheet is ok but the top sheet twists and becomes like a rope. I gave them to my dog for his bed.

my all time favorite splurge is from Macy's- any of the charter club 600-800 thread count PIMA sheets- LOVE them...can't afford new ones but I loooove these sheets-I feel like I'm in a bed n breakfast when I make my bed with them;)

Bamboo sheets!! Not bamboo fiber-cotton mix, just bamboo fiber. They're kind of luminous and soft like silk, and they don't pill. We got one of our sets at Target like 5 years ago. A bit expensive, but worth it because they always feel so extra luxurious when you slide into bed, and they last forever. The ones that are 5-years-old are just as nice as the new ones, and I can't say that about the cotton sheet sets we have! I've seen 'em on eBay, too. If you give them a shot, just make sure they're 100% bamboo, or else the fiber blend makes the quality iffy.

Also, if you can't get Bamboo ones, Ross/Marshalls has slightly warped or even seemingly-normal super luxe sheets that are from way expensive brands at huge discounts, so you can try different thread counts and fibers easier that way!
