Talking Feeling Sassy Already :) Watch out world - I'm Baaaack (well, almost)

My former, sassy self is returning much sooner with every pound I lose. I'm so happy!

My coworkers and I went to lunch - 3 women and 1 male. One of the women is getting married, and the other asked about it. The three of them started talking, and apparently the bride-to-be is getting her dress from a dress shop that's featured on the show "Say Yes To the Dress." We all marveled at his knowledge. He said he knew about it because his longtime live-in girlfriend of 8 years had a coworker who was on the show. I said that I was impressed that he knew the name of the shop (especially since he has no intention of marrying his gf and everyone could see that at our other coworker's wedding except her, who kept nudging him and making comments about them getting married). He said that all girls knew the name of the shop. I said "Well I'm a girl and I don't even know the name of that shop." Then he said, "Well now you know." I said " And now I'll forget." He said, "Good for you." I said, "That's right; it IS good for me!" I smiled, looked him straight in the eyes and kept my voice low, level and upbeat the entire time. He shut up. There was silence. Then the other women started talking to each other about the wedding. I just sat there eating my pizza with a grin like everything was fine, because everything WAS fine.

Later as we paid for our food he said that I was cute, and I said "thank you" as if to say "yeah, I know." I love it!

The fatter me would have just let him imply that something was wrong with me because I did not know about the shop (why know about a wedding dress shop when I'm not getting married right now!) and then write in my diary about feeling mad at myself for not practicing the gentle art of verbal self-defense, and probably self-medicate with food on top of that. But the more slimmed down me is reemerging into the sassy, self-confident, self-assured, kindhearted-but-took-no-crap self, and I cannot wait for her to fully emerge a little wiser than before.

I'm not sure if he said it in a super rude way or something, but to me it doesn't sound like he was being mean at all, or like something you would need to defend. I'm not sure if I read the story wrong but to me it seems like something a guy would just assume, that all girls know the name of the wedding shop, not trying to put you down just making a comment, and the comments you said back seem like something a stuck up girl would say.

Wow what a buzzkill from someone who wasn't there! Talk about stuck up!!! I guess you don't understand what a SUPPORT FORUM is for!

Just because guys assume something doesn't mean that it's okay. I know an insult when I hear one, and just because it's popular to accept it does not make it right or that I'm stuck up because a) I know I'm good-looking and don't need anyone who just insulted me to try butter me up with one, especially when he's never complimented me before and b) just because it's popular and it's assumed by most guys.

Well thanks for your view/opinion stranger I've never met and have NO desire to ever meet. The next time I see you post something I think is ridiculous (because I've seen it, and often wondered "who's this valley girl?" oh look! another popular assumption! blond chick + California = "valley girl" "dumb blond" "easy"), I'll be sure to be give you a dose of this, make sure I say you're stuck up and act like I'm missing your point of view with no support in a support forum.

Well I wasn't trying to be rude, I just read it a few times thinking the same thing, and thought it odd 50 people had looked at it (at the time) without saying anything. I am a very supportive person, and I just thought I'd say something, so you can see it from another persons view. You can purposely be rude to me to make yourself feel better but I was not in anyway trying to be rude to you. I'm sorry if you feel like everyones out to get you but a lot of people are genuinely good people, and say things like "all girls know where the wedding shop is" not thinking it is going to hurt someones feelings.

I also don't mean to be rude, but I have to agree with JillNicole. It is wonderful to have a confident and assertive attitude, but please be aware it can easily cross the line and come off as acting like a b%&#*. Take the high road and be confident and assertive, but do it with class.
