I never thought it hurt that much, and I have waxed all over including underarms. If the hair is around 1/4 inch long that is perfect. Do not take aspirin before getting it done, but you can take an advil about 30 mins before the appt

Congrats on being so brave....
Was it awkward? I want to get one really bad because I HAAAAAAAAAATEEEEEE shaving but I'm so embarrassed to get it done. I guess it's because even though I've lost weight I still feel like an uggo in a beautiful people's world sometimes lol, especially when it comes to going into a salon.

I'm going to book to have a bikini wax before my holiday next month. I've considered it every year before I go on vacation but I think I will actually do it this time. I'm so nervous! I'm not even going for the Brazilian or anything, just a normal bikini wax.
All the comments on here have swayed me into trying it. Thanks for all your input!
Ah! So nervous!

Oh goodness I know the feeling... but trust me, the aestheticians who do brazilians have seen cooters of all types, on all types of people, and to them it's all the same. There's really no embarrassment - at my salon we just chat and laugh while she works, basically the same as getting a hair cut. Look on a review site like yelp.com to find a good salon and do it!! Good luck!

i want to do this too. i have been thinking about it for a while and thought maybe i would do it as a reward somewhere along the way. i also have the nervousness and embarrasment thing going on, but it sounds like lots of people have that and it's fine so i guess i'll just have to get over it.
i have question, hopefully not tmi. i saw an actress on oprah once and they were talking about waxing and how great it was and how you could either do the "full brazilian and remove everything," or do the "modified brazilian and just remove everything below the border." does anyone know, when "below the border" refers to only remving part of the hair (and not all of it meaning just below the belt), what is "the border"?
sorry if this is a really obvious answer, but for some reason i just don't know what it is. thanks!

I usually go by word of mouth. But i have zero shame, if i were you i'd call and just say "i'm calling about the brazillian wax, just curious does that mean everything is getting waxed?" I went to one place that attempted to jip me out of the full shabang and i spread my legs took a look and said "oh no, i paid for a brazillian so get to it lady!" Id def say ask some of your girlfriends, thats how i found my lady now. It hurts, but is so worth it

A brazillian wax includes removing all hair in the pubic region as well as the between the butt cheeks (it actually doesn't hurt there!). Most estheticians ask if you would like the 'back' done as well.
So its up to you if you dare to go bare - back there! (hehe)

thanks! i got the impression that they were referring to where a landing strip might end. so if you remove all but a landing strip (so remove the sides, around the back, some from the top area, etc, but left a landing strip) it seemed like they were referring to where the landing strip would end, like there was a specific place. at least the actress was implying that, though oprah seemed as confused as i am as to what that end point/border was. she kept saying "below the border, hmm" and making a confused expression.

I had my first bikini wax about half an hour ago. It was painful but that was gone quite quickly. I'm hoping it's worth doing and the hair stays away for a while! The woman missed a few hairs though, and when I pointed it out, she said she'd go back and get them but then she didn't. I guess it's expected that the wax doesn't get everything. Should I just tweeze them out tomorrow when I'm not so red and tender?

There are always a few left over when I get waxed too, and she does tweeze a few of them, but there's still some that stay behind. I'd exfoliate (firefox is telling me I spelled that wrong but not giving me an autocorrected version.. lol) tonight and tweeze 'em tomorrow. Gives the area a bit of a break for a while But up to you!
I'm going in the next couple of weeks to get mine done before vacation, and hopefully getting a below-the-belt piercing while on vacation
However - I am considering trying to wax my underarms myself, but I'm way more nervous about that then about the brazillian or piercing!

Okay, I admit I am very naive when it comes to um... pruning... down there. I too have some questions that you don't get to ask in every day life.
Firstly, if ever I have tried to trim the hair shorter with sharp scissors I end up regretting it for the next couple of weeks as the itching drives me insane. So does everyone just live with constant itching? I don't think I can so I tend to just leave things be. I hate leaving it completely natural but I don't want to be uncomfortable.
I went for a basic bikini wax last year as I was going on holiday and the lady who did it made me feel really awkward. She also asked my age (I'm 24) and then laughed and said I only looked about 16. Then she told me in kind of a nasty way that the hair was "longer" than most people she saw. In short, she made me feel like a freak.
So do most people shave? And if you shave your bikini line, what do you do to keep the bits that are left neat?
Am I the only hairy mary left?

Papayamule- Sounds like you just had an immature waxing person. Don't let that ruin it for you! Look up a place, read tons of reviews, get recommendations. I don't shave because I don't like the idea of having a razor so close to my bits - and it itches when it grows back. However, trimming with scissors doesn't seem like it should leave you itchy? How short are you trimming? :/
Therex - I'm planning on a VCH - I've wanted it for the last two years or so, but I've always waited for it to be a weight loss gift for myself. But I still have yet to lose the weight I want, and I'm tired of waiting. So I'm just going for it, and maybe it'll inspire me to get skinnier somehow

I just had my first waxing experience (fun, fun lunch break). It wasn't too bad. I mean it hurt but not too bad, heck, I have had 2 c-sections .
