Default Why am I loosing my hair??

Okay, every day my hair seems thinner and thinner. I used to have thick strong hair. My mom even called it pony mane because it was so thick and there was tons of it. Now it is so thin. Is there a vitamin that you guys use for healthy hair? I know I wont have the hair I had when I was 14 but I would love to at least have healthy shiny hair for the few strands that I have left.

Could just be a fast weight loss thing.

How fast are you losing?

you gotta make sure you are getting your nutrients in. How restrictive is your diet? Are you eating lots of veggies, getting in good fats? take a good multivitamin, prenatal may be the best.

i had a problem with my hair falling out about 5 years ago. turns out it was my birth control pills causing it. i took them for almost 2 years before i figured it out. if you're not on any kind of birth control just ignore my post.

I second Willow's notion - make sure you are getting enough good fats in your diet. Fat is essential to healthy skin, hair, nails...

I've found taking 5000 mcg Biotin daily helps. I also use Tresemme' Anti Breakage shampoo & conditioner, that has helped too.

I think it is absolutely essential that you take a Multi-Vitamin with Minerals, whenever you are trying to lose weight and I would also recommend a Vitamin "B" Complex (like 50 or 100) on top of that. I had the same experience when I went on a low carb diet in my 20's, my hair started falling out in clumps; and later, on more balanced weightloss plans, it still thins out, albeit more slowly. When I 'tripled' my vitamin intake, my hair grew back in.

Make sure to eat some whole grains and good oils daily. My family has a history of low nutrient absorption which we have just recently found out; meaning, our bodies have a hard time getting enough Vitamins & especially Minerals from even a regular diet ...

There are hormonal reasons as well as dietary reasons for hair loss.
If it gets really bad you might want to see your physician and have some testing done.

Are you on any medications?

Could be hormones.

Could be hereditary.

Could be stress.

Could be low iron.

I would get complete blood work done, including iron level and thyroid panel.

Have you been tested for PCOS? Sometimes it's a symptom...

And I second taking biotin...whole foods sells the 5000 mcg Biotin capsules mentioned above. They're a little pricey ($15 per bottle) - but if they'll help me with hair growth, I'll pay it.

How much protein are you eating? A main sign of not enough protein is hairloss. I was losing hair a lot also and when I started adding more protein the hairloss stopped.

Anti-depressant medications can cause hair loss. Just a thought!
